How to RUIN a brand-new shock absorber before it even hits the road. 💀
Even a simple Volkswagen suspension repair can go wrong if you don't have the right tools.
On many VW and Audi shock absorbers, the piston rod needs to be held in place while tightening the upper mounting nut.
The problem? Some general repair shops use vise grips to clamp directly onto the polished piston rod.
Those little teeth can damage the smooth surface. And when that damaged surface travels through the shock absorber's oil seal, you could end up with a brand-new shock leaking prematurely.
The correct method? Use the proper counterholding tool designed for the shock rod.
No scratched shaft. No unnecessary damage. No shortcuts.
This is why specialist shops matter, even for the simplest repairs.
A new part doesn't guarantee a proper repair. The technician and the tools behind the installation matter just as much.
