October is here, as usual. It's always a bit melancholy to haul out No Rush at the end of the sailing season. With the help of a few live-aboard sailing friends, and Moose and Brandon of course, we got her mast out and on the trolley headed for winter sawhorses at St. Peter's Marina. No Rush is now back at home dock for a few days while we work on preps for winter storage. We'll haul her out back at St. Peter's Marina on Thursday, and winterize the engine and plumbing systems. And get her tucked in for winter. More news to come as we are planning some changes for summer sailing 2027. www.capebretonsailing.com

Today was a great day for sailing in St. Peter’s Inlet. 8 -15 knots from NW made for minimal tacking and high velocity between the canal and in behind Chapel Island. Average speed 5+ knots. Both ways. Dawn caught this pic from our backyard as we breezed by on our last leg home, at 7.2 knots. Today’s crew from North Carolina were a family, adult kids first time sailing, with dad who had some long ago experience to rekindle. Check out our sailing offers www.capebretonsailing.com

A view from the cockpit on Tues night en route from St. Peter’s to Halifax. We landed at our guest dock, Armdale YC after a 31 hour transit. Friday we’ll watch trials for the Sail GP race, and the races on Saturday and Sunday from aboard No Rush. Meanwhile, for any friends in Hfx we’re on F dock, slip 5 when not at the race course. Feel free to drop by.

We had our first sail with guests this year, before our ‘business season’ opens July 1, and it was a special one. Travelling friends Andre and Maria, and their dog Cabella, are staying for a while in St. Peter’s. We met Maria in Madrid this past February at a sangria-making workshop, and, when I told her we’re from Cape Breton, she said they might visit Nova Scotia in a few months. Then they turned up by our our back door a couple weeks ago. We can literally see their AirBnB from our house across the water, and vice versa. We had a lovely sail into Potletek in fair winds and clearish skies, to behind Chapel Island. It’s a smaller world every day.

No Rush has had some cosmetic surgery below the waterline. We renewed the hull/keel joint after checking and minor adjustments to, the keel bolts. And stripping out the auld caulking. Deep sanded -ground, packed in G-Flex, then some West epoxy+ fairing density filler, Aquagard primer and anti-fouling paint done. Here the marina crew is setting her up on the launch trailer. Ready for take-off.

Saturday launch of No Rush II at St Peter’s Marina

05/22/2026

We launched No Rush II on Saturday, along with 6 others at St. Peter’s Marina. We only started after 2 pm as the high winds earlier in the day made it unsafe to lift boats onto the hydraulic trailer. But, everyone was happy with progress on day 1. We are now afloat at our home dock, prepping for summer sailing.

Happy Easter Monday! Smoke on the water today, and that’s a good sign we’ll be launching boats before too long. The ‘smoke’ is really ‘adjection fog’ over the open water as the sea ice is clearing within view of our yard, finally. This is caused by warmer dry air over the still very cold water. With the forecast temps this week up to 10C we could be clear to the shore in a day or few. Meanwhile I’m optimistically scheduling installation of summer tires on the land yacht.
