Here is some interesting automobilia for you. It’s little wonder that for many years Fisher Body’s logo was of an old stagecoach. Here is a 1927 Fisher Body bulletin regarding the proper names for wooden body parts. Fisher had been founded in 1908 by Frederic and Charles Fisher. Early “ horseless carriage” design bodies were wooden and had a lot of problems with durability. Fishers bodies were innovative and addressed a lot of the wooden body issues. Their company thrived and eventually was bought partially by General Motors and later bought in its entirety. Before stamped metal bodies and interiors became the norm, the company owned 160,000 acres (650 km2) of timberland and used more wood, carpet, tacks, and thread than any other manufacturer in the world. It had more than 40 plants and employed more than 100,000 people, and pioneered many improvements in tooling and automobile design including closed all-weather bodies.
Over the decades GM increasingly internalized Fisher Brothers in its operations. In 1984 GM dissolved its Fisher Body Division as part of its extensive North American restructuring. Some of the plants that had been a part of Fisher Body , joined a different part of the company which manufactured headlights and plastic parts, to form the Fisher Guide Division.
The name and its iconic "Body by Fisher" logo has been widely known, as hundreds of millions of General Motors vehicles over many years displayed a "Body by Fisher" emblem on their door sill plates until Fisher Body's demise. 🚗
