Have you ever caught yourself making rolling stops? 👇
This mistake fails more road tests than you think!

My student made a rolling stop at a red light before turning right, a very common mistake that can cost you your road test instantly.

A red light means you must come to a COMPLETE stop behind the stop line, crosswalk, or intersection. Slowing down isn’t enough. Even if the road looks clear, rolling through the stop is considered a traffic violation and a critical road test error.

âś… Stop completely
âś… Check for pedestrians
âś… Scan for traffic
✅ Turn only when it’s safe

Don’t let a simple habit become the reason you leave without your licence.

Congratulations Shruti on passing your G Test in your first attempt!

Would you have waited here, or would you have turned? 👇🚶‍♀️

Many new drivers see a green light and immediately focus on finding a gap in traffic to make their right turn. The problem? They’re so focused on vehicles that they forget to check the crosswalk.

In this lesson, we’re teaching our student that a green light does NOT automatically mean it’s your turn to go.

Before making a right turn, you must carefully check for pedestrians and allow them to completely clear your path. Even if traffic behind you is waiting, even if your light is green, pedestrians who are legally crossing have the right of way.

This is also an important reminder for pedestrians. When the countdown timer begins, it is generally not the time to start crossing. The countdown is there for pedestrians who are already in the crosswalk to finish crossing safely. If you’re already crossing, continue across as efficiently as possible. If you haven’t started yet, wait for the next walk signal.

One of the biggest habits we teach our students is to slow down their decision-making at intersections:

âś… Check the crosswalk first
âś… Scan for late pedestrians
âś… Yield to anyone still crossing
âś… Turn only when the path is completely clear

Road tests aren’t just about following the rules—they’re about showing the examinersthat you can recognize and manage real-world hazards.

A few extra seconds of patience can prevent a collision and could save a life.

🚨 This is why driving instructors have dual brakes.

As we approached the red light, the student began turning right without coming to a complete stop first. At a red light, you must stop fully behind the stop line, check for pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic, and only proceed when it is safe and legal to do so.

Because the vehicle was still rolling toward the turn, the instructor had to step in and stop the car.

This is one of the most common mistakes new drivers make, and on a road test it could result in an automatic failure depending on the situation.

Remember:
âś… Stop completely at the stop line
âś… Check all directions for pedestrians and traffic
âś… Yield to anyone with the right-of-way
âś… Only turn when it is safe

Watch closely and see exactly why the instructor had to intervene.

🚦One of the biggest mistakes new drivers make is coming to a complete stop at a green light when there are no pedestrians, cyclists, or hazards present. Not only can this confuse drivers behind you, but it can also affect your road test score.

Here’s the correct way to make a right turn on a green light:

✅ Don’t signal too early. Make sure there aren’t any driveways, parking lot entrances, or side streets before your turn.

âś… Position your vehicle properly. If there is a dedicated right lane available after the turn, turn into that lane.

âś… Reduce your speed as you approach the intersection and scan carefully for pedestrians.

âś… If no pedestrians or cyclists are crossing, keep moving smoothly.

âś… Before turning, do a final mirror check and shoulder check (blind spot check).

âś… If there is a bike lane, do NOT drive into it while turning. Stay out of the bike lane and enter the appropriate traffic lane safely.

A smooth, confident turn shows awareness, good judgment, and proper vehicle control—exactly what examiners want to see on your G2 and G road tests.

Did you know you’re not supposed to stop at a green light if the path is clear? 👇

🚨 WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO? 🚨

Watch closely as an ambulance approaches from behind while we’re stopped at a red light. Many drivers panic, freeze, or make unpredictable moves in situations like this and that’s exactly what can create more danger.

When an ambulance, fire truck, or police vehicle is approaching with its sirens and flashing lights activated, Ontario law requires drivers to yield the right-of-way immediately and safely. Even if you’re stopped at a traffic light, you must do everything you can to move out of the way when it is safe to do so.

âś… Signal
âś… Check your surroundings
âś… Move as far right as safely possible
âś… Stop and allow the emergency vehicle to pass

Remember: those few seconds could make the difference between life and death for someone waiting for emergency help.

❌ Common mistakes drivers make:
• Staying stopped in the middle of the lane
• Blocking intersections
• Following closely behind emergency vehicles
• Making sudden unsafe lane changes
• Panicking and stopping unpredictably

In Ontario, failing to properly yield to an emergency vehicle can result in:
đź’° Fines ranging from $400 to $2,000
đź“„ Three demerit points
đźš— Possible licence suspension for repeat offences

Every driver will eventually encounter an emergency vehicle. The key is staying calm, being predictable, and creating a clear path as quickly and safely as possible.

Did you know you’re expected to move over even when stopped at a red light?

🚧 SPOT THE ILLEGAL MOVE BEFORE THE EXAMINER DOES.

Most drivers will miss it.

As we entered this construction zone, the posted speed limit hadn’t changed. Even so, we slowed down because workers, equipment, and changing road conditions create additional risks that demand extra caution.

Ontario construction zones come with serious penalties:
⚠️ Increased speeding fines
⚠️ Higher penalties when workers are present
⚠️ Certain speeding offences may carry doubled demerit points
⚠️ Potential licence suspensions and vehicle impoundment for major offences

Good drivers don’t drive based solely on signs they drive based on conditions.

đź‘€ Keep watching and see if you can identify the illegal move this student makes near the end of the vid

🚨 On your road test, this may result in an automatic fail.

Many new drivers treat a right turn on a red light like a yield sign. They slow down, check for traffic, and turn without making a complete stop.

Remember: A red light means STOP first. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop behind the white line, scan left, center, and right, check for pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic with the right of way, and only proceed when it is safe.

Just because the cars ahead of you rolled through the red doesn’t mean you should. Examiners are looking for safe and legal driving habits, not what everyone else is doing.

Stop completely. Check carefully. Turn only when it’s safe.

That’s how you pass the test and stay safe on the road.

🚨 One of the most common right-turn mistakes new drivers make!

My student was about to make a right turn on a red light when I had to stop the car and explain what was happening. Even though they were turning right, the oncoming traffic had an advanced green arrow, which means THEY have the right of way.

Many new drivers see an opening and assume they can go, but advanced green traffic is protected and should never be forced to slow down or change lanes because of your turn.

Remember: before turning right on a red, always check for pedestrians, cross traffic, AND whether oncoming vehicles have an advanced green.

This mistake can lead to a road test failure and, more importantly, a dangerous collision.

Did you know who had the right of way here? 👇

🚨 One of the biggest highway merging mistakes new drivers make…

They pick a gap, the traffic slows down, and then they stop on the on-ramp waiting for that same vehicle.

Instead, keep moving forward when it’s safe to do so. If your original target vehicle comes to a stop and you still have room ahead, continue rolling and find a new target vehicle to merge behind.

Your goal is to merge smoothly with traffic not stop at the end of the acceleration lane and hope someone lets you in.

âś… Set a target vehicle
âś… Adjust as traffic changes
âś… Keep moving when safe
âś… Merge before running out of lane

Highway traffic is constantly changing. Good drivers adapt and create opportunities instead of waiting for the perfect gap.

Save this for your next highway lesson! đźš—đź’¨
