🚶 PEDESTRIANS FIRST. SAFETY ALWAYS.

Ontario drivers must understand how to respond to pedestrians at crossings.

Here's what every learner should know:

🔸 Watch for pedestrians approaching or using crosswalks.

🔸 At a pedestrian crossover, stop and yield as required by Ontario law, and don't proceed until it's safe and the crossing rules allow you to do so.

🔸 At intersections, yield to pedestrians as required, including those lawfully crossing when you turn.

🔸 Never pass a vehicle stopped at a pedestrian crossover. It may be stopped for someone you cannot see.

🔸 Slow down and stay alert in school zones and residential neighbourhoods.

🚦 Good driving isn't just about passing your road test. It's about protecting everyone who shares the road.

🅿️ PARALLEL PARKING IS A SKILL, NOT A SUPERPOWER!

Does parallel parking make you nervous? You're not alone!

Here's how to improve:

✅ Go slowly: Low speed gives you more time to control the vehicle.

✅ Use reference points: Learn how your car lines up with the vehicle you're parking behind.

✅ Check all around: Watch for traffic, pedestrians, cyclists and obstacles.

✅ Make small adjustments: Smooth steering is usually better than rushing.

✅ Practise different spaces: Real parking situations won't always look exactly like the ones you practise.

🚗 Remember, the goal is safe, controlled parking—not memorizing one magic steering trick.

WINDS Driving School offers in-car driving lessons to help you improve your parking, manoeuvres and confidence.

🛑 ROLLING STOPS CAN COST YOU!

A stop sign means your vehicle must come to a complete stop. Slowing down isn't enough!

Here's the correct technique:

1️⃣ Stop before the stop line, if one is marked.

2️⃣ If there is no stop line, stop before the crosswalk or the appropriate point at the intersection.

3️⃣ Look left, right and left again, checking carefully for pedestrians and traffic.

4️⃣ Proceed only when it is safe and you have the right-of-way.

⚠️ Don't let nerves make you rush. A calm, complete stop demonstrates control and good observation.

Practise this skill before your G2 or G test with WINDS Driving School!

Watch out for pedestrians and cyclists, especially at intersections and during turns where most close calls happen.

10/28/2026

Improper lane changes account for about 7% of all police reported motor vehicle collisions across Canada. That's 1 in 14 collisions.

👀 YOUR MIRRORS AREN'T JUST DECORATION!

One common mistake among new drivers is checking mirrors without making it obvious that they're checking.

Here's how to build a better routine:

🔹 Check your mirrors regularly to understand what's happening around you.

🔹 Before changing lanes, check your mirrors and blind spot.

🔹 Before turning or pulling over, check for cyclists, pedestrians and other vehicles.

🔹 Before moving away from the curb, make sure the road is clear.

🚘 Pro tip: Mirror checks should be purposeful. Know what you're looking for, and never rely on mirrors alone when a blind-spot check is needed.

At WINDS Driving School, we help learners develop the observation skills needed for safer driving and road test preparation.

🚦 WHO GOES FIRST AT A 4-WAY STOP?

Confused about who should move first? Here's a simple guide for Ontario drivers!

✅ First to stop, first to go: The driver who arrives first generally proceeds first.

✅ Arrive at the same time: The driver on the right has the right-of-way.

✅ Turning left? Yield to oncoming traffic that is close enough to be a hazard.

✅ Always check: Look in every direction before moving, even when you have the right-of-way.

Remember: Having the right-of-way doesn't mean you should proceed without checking that it's safe!
