🛑 YOUR BRAKES NEED MAINTENANCE TOO.

Brake service ≠ brake replacement

“I need to service my brakes?”

YES! And this is one of those services we probably talk about almost as much as regular oil changes.

But here’s the important part:

🛑 A brake service is NOT the same thing as replacing your brakes.

Brake service is about maintaining the brake components you already have and making sure they continue to work properly.

Over time, brake components can become dirty, rusted, seized and/or restricted from moving the way they are designed to. This can lead to uneven brake wear, premature wear of brake components, noise, reduced braking performance and, in some cases, a bigger repair down the road.

So what do we actually do during a brake service?

🔧 Disassemble the brakes
🧹 Clean the components and remove built-up debris and rust
🛠️ Inspect the components for wear, damage, uneven wear and proper operation
🧴 Properly lubricate the areas that require lubrication
🔩 Reassemble everything and verify that the brake components are moving and functioning as they should

It's not just about cleaning things up — it's about taking the brakes apart, looking at what's happening, addressing issues before they become bigger problems, and making sure everything is operating properly.

Think of it as preventative maintenance for your braking system.

You've already invested in those pads, rotors and other brake components. Regular servicing helps protect that investment and can help maximize the life of the parts.

Now, does brake maintenance mean you'll never have to replace your brakes? Absolutely not! Brake pads and rotors are wear items, and eventually they will need to be replaced.

But proper brake maintenance can help extend the life of those components, promote even wear, prevent components from seizing, and help prevent premature wear.

And that's the goal — keeping your brakes functioning properly and helping you get the most life possible out of the components you've already invested in. We'd much rather help you get the full service life out of your brake components than see them wear prematurely because they weren't properly maintained.

Your brakes are one of the most important safety systems on your vehicle. Give them the attention they deserve!

🔧 BEHIND THE SCENES: MATT RYDER 🏒

If you’ve been to MAD Automotive, chances are you’ve met Matt.

Born and raised right here in Woodstock, Ontario, Matt started his automotive career with the goal of becoming a technician. He completed the majority of his apprenticeship at a local GM dealership before finishing his apprenticeship at a GM dealer in Alberta. He became a licensed automotive technician in 2013.

After working at a few local shops, Matt quickly realized that the dealership environment wasn’t really his thing. He wanted the freedom to do things differently — and, in his own words, he’s “not a very employable guy.” 😂

A move to a small independent shop gave him his first real taste of what shop ownership could look like. He liked what he saw, took the leap, and in May 2017, MAD Automotive was born.

And he hasn’t looked back since.

Today, Matt is the owner, shop foreman, problem solver, diagnostician, hockey enthusiast, and, according to his two kids, sometimes just “Dad.” ❤️

If you’ve been to the shop, you’ve probably seen those two kids running around too. They’re a pretty big part of why MAD Automotive is what it is.

When he’s not at the shop or spending time with the kids, you’ll most likely find Matt involved in hockey — playing it, coaching it, watching it, or talking about it. 🏒

But when it comes to the shop, Matt’s passion is solving problems — especially the difficult ones. The diagnosis that doesn’t make sense. The vehicle that’s been to three other shops. The problem that requires digging a little deeper.

He genuinely enjoys figuring those ones out.

And perhaps most importantly, Matt is passionate about fixing vehicles the way he would want his own vehicle fixed.

That means doing the job properly, taking pride in the workmanship, and standing behind the work.

That’s the guy behind MAD Automotive.
