Agile and powerful: Saab 9-3 Aero test drive

Germany, May 13, 2006. The turbo effect as a safety plus. Visually, the Saab 9-3 Aero doesn't stand out much from contemporary design trends. With its clean, wedge-shaped lines, the mid-size sedan appears understated and conformist, having abandoned the bulky, unconventional look that once made a Saab so distinctive.

But the Swedes, who have belonged to General Motors since 1990, certainly offer extravagances, thus ensuring a distinctive look. This starts with the elegantly curved, driver-oriented, green-illuminated dashboard and doesn't end with the aluminum trim on the steering wheel.

At least approximately what was a small revolution and relief in everyday life with the computer. WYSIWYG attached every software house to its product. Whether it was appropriate or not. For Lowe Brindfors, Saab's favorite advertising agency, it was an opportunity to play with the acronym.

Wouldn't we all like a perfect Saab?
Sometimes old cars annoy me. The 9-3 Aero is being renovated again after 10 years. The 9000 has been feeling a little incontinence for a few days, the origin of which I have not yet been able to pinpoint with certainty. So there's always something to do and that's okay with old sheet metal.

But sometimes I feel like buying a new car. Don't misunderstand. Nothing that comes fresh from the factory. That largely leaves me cold. But on a new Saab. Not a new car in the traditional sense, but an older, new - but perfect Saab. One that, after buying it, I don't have to drive to the lift in Frankfurt and quickly make a list of everything that needs to be done.

From fans – for fans: Buy Saabs at the Classic Days in Neumünster!

Germany's northernmost classic car show kicks off this weekend. The Holsten Halls in Neumünster will be filled with Saab spirit, as the small Swedish cult brand has a strong presence here. The Saab Club Schleswig-Holstein/Hamburg's stand is almost complete, and visitors can expect interesting exhibits.

In fact, it won't just be classic Saabs on display. And during the Classic Days, some vehicles will even be available for purchase directly from the exhibition stand. From fans for fans – it doesn't get much better than that. The highlight, however, will be a brand-new Saab 9-5 NG – practically in its original delivery condition.

Added value: Why it's worthwhile to read the SaabBlog magazine

The SaabBlog has been around for over 15 years. Since then, it has become a companion to the brand's history, but something else is far more important. The pages are a collection of experiences: about life with classic cars, about projects and how to see them through, and how sometimes one fails at them.

That's what makes the magazine incredibly valuable. If you recognize its value. Because while old Saabs certainly have a lot of charm and style, and they enchant with their truly exceptional technical solutions—the night panel, the splayed speedometer, an asymmetrical turbocharger, and genuine aviation-derived features in the 9000—where else can you find all that in such a concentrated form?
