This Checklists Day, make sure your workshop covers all critical checkpoints from start to finish:

Fluid Testing: Perform a boil-test on brake fluid using the TEX1000BFT tester.

Precision Measurements: Check wheel hub runout before and after fitting new discs using TEX1028.

Manufacturer Torque: Tighten wheel bolts and nuts according to manufacturer specifications.

Bedding in Coated Discs: Brake gently from a maximum speed of 30 mph / 50 km/h to prevent coating build-up on pads, allowing cooling delays between braking for the first 120 miles / 200 km.

🛞 How to remove brake dust? 🛞

So how to get rid of brake dust once it has begun building up on the braking components?

A good scrub with soap and water and a stiff-bristled brush usually does the trick.

There are several wheel cleaners available to easily remove brake dust, however, some of these can be harsh on certain surfaces.
We recommend reading the manufacturer’s instructions when using wheel cleaners and always testing on a small area first. 👩‍💻
Finally, when working with chemical cleaners or airborne particles, don’t forget to wear a mask!

🛞 Does brake dust affect performance? 🛞
🏎️Brake dust itself doesn’t affect your braking performance directly. As long as your brake system is in good condition, it won’t stop you from stopping safely.
BUT if too much dust builds up around components like the calliper, it can reduce performance.
That’s why regular cleaning and maintenance are essential! 👨‍🔧

🛞 What causes brake dust? 🛞

Brake dust is created by the friction between your brake pads and discs when you slow down.

❓But did you know that 80% of brake dust actually comes from the disc, not the pads?

The material in your brake pads plays a big part too. Low met, semi-metallic, and non-asbestos organic (NAO) brake pads all produce different amounts of brake dust.

Your braking behaviour will affect the amount of dust being generated, too. Aggressive driving or frequent stop-and-go city driving? Expect more brake dust! 🚦
