🌊Types of water pumps🌊

Mechanical water pumps are driven directly by the engine. The power consumption of the water pump thereby increases in line with the engine speed. But even during idling, sufficient engine cooling must also be guaranteed for all operating states. Conventional water pumps are therefore oversized for most operating states.

On electrical water pumps, the power consumption can be controlled electronically depending on the extent to which the engine needs to be cooled. This demand-based control ensures lower fuel consumption and therefore lower pollutant emissions thanks to the optimum operating temperature being reached faster and held.

⚡Ohm's Law⚡

We have already learnt about electrical voltage U, electrical resistance R and current I. Together, they form one of the most important fundamental formulas in electrical engineering: Ohm’s Law , which demonstrates how these three quantities influence one another.

The easily rearranged basic formula of Ohm’s Law is: U = R × I (voltage = resistance multiplied by current). This leads to the following conclusions:
• Constant resistance — more current flows when the voltage is increased.
• Constant voltage — less current flows when the resistance increases.

To summarise simply:
• Voltage ‘pushes’ the electrons.
• Resistance ‘slows them down’.
• The current indicates how many electrons are actually flowing.

Auch in diesem Jahr waren wir wieder auf der Bildungsmesse im redblue in Heilbronn vertreten und stellten am 19. und 20. Juni unsere Ausbildungsberufe und dualen Studiengänge vor. Trotz der hochsommerlichen Temperaturen 🥵durften wir uns über viele Besucher an unserem Stand und zahlreiche interessante Gespräche freuen 😁.

⚡Watt⚡

A watt is the unit of electrical power and is denoted by the symbol P. Watt indicates how much energy an electrical load consumes per second.

In a vehicle’s 12-volt electrical system, the wattage indicates how ‘powerful’ a load is and how much energy it requires from the system. Since power is calculated from voltage and current (P = U × I), this means, for example:
If a consumer in a car draws a current of 5 amps at 12 volts, it operates at 60 watts. A typical example is a 60-watt halogen bulb in a headlamp, which converts 60 joules of electrical energy into light and heat per second. More powerful consumers, such as the rear window heater or the fan motor, require correspondingly more watts and place a greater load on the electrical system. The specification in watts helps to understand and compare the performance and energy requirements of the various electrical systems in the vehicle.

🔄The turbocharger speed sensors detect the exact speed of the compressor impeller or rotor shaft and protect turbochargers from overrevving. Additionally, the control unit is able to regulate the boost pressure more precisely and more quickly based on the recorded speed. This allows optimum use of the engine power depending on the driving situation.

⚡Voltage & Current⚡

Electrical voltage is measured in volts (V). The symbol is U. Electrical current, measured in amperes (A), is denoted by the symbol I, named after the French physicist André-Marie Ampère. Together with electrical resistance, they form Ohm’s law.

Voltage can be illustrated using the analogy of water pressure in a pipe. This ‘pressure’ drives the electrons, which are negatively charged particles. Without voltage, there is no electric current. Electric current therefore depends on the voltage and the electrical resistance (ohms). To stick with the water analogy, current is the volume of water flowing out of the pipe per second. A lot of water corresponds to a high current.

If the current is too high, components may be damaged.

ℹThe air conditioning compressor is an essential component of air conditioning systems. In contrast to air conditioning compressors in vehicles with a conventional combustion engine, the electric air conditioning compressor for hybrid and electric vehicles is equipped with its own electric motor. For this reason, electric air conditioning compressors also work when the vehicle's engine or motor is switched off. The OE-approved refrigerant must be used for the air conditioning compressor.

🔧When replacing the electric air conditioning compressor, the system must be flushed beforehand. In addition, the seals, expansion valve and filter dryer must be replaced, as otherwise contamination will remain in the system and can then damage the newly installed air conditioning compressor. If the non-flushable parts are not replaced, the warranty of the new compressor will be invalidated.
