This week in foxes we turned our role play area into an ice cream shop. We used our special foam to have as the base of the ice cream, then added sprinkles, cherries and sauce. Some of the children said 'ice cream', others enjoyed making the sundaes and selecting what they wanted to pop on the top. We talked about ice cream flavours, ice cream vans and loved sharing the ice cream with friends.

Last week in Owls we kept cool by making our own instant ice cream. The children put milk, sugar and vanilla essence in one bag, then in another bag added ice and salt. When you put the milk bag inside the ice bag and shook them together the salt reacted with the ice to freezing point and turned the milk mixture into ice cream. The owls got to try the ice cream and said it was yummy and made them cold.
Some of the new words we learnt were, experiment, recipe and reacts together.

As the weather has gone a bit cooler we ventured outside to explore washing the babies. The babies in Mouse Room used different resources to wash the babies such as sponges, scrubbers and mitts. One child said 'brush' as they were brushing the babies hair after they had given them a bath. To extend this activity we added foam to the babies bodies so, as the children washed them they could see the foam disappear showing that the babies are clean again.

This week we went on a bug hunt in the garden. We were looking for worms, but we didn't find any. However we found some beetles, ants, butterflies and even a toad. The children used magnifying glasses and insect pots to get a better look at the bugs. We had a net to catch the butterflies in, but we didn't catch any as they flew away too quickly. When we came back inside we used the tablet to look up what other bugs we could find in the garden. Then we decided to have a go at painting some of them.

The children have enjoyed building a football pitch with magnetic tiles, exploring shapes with foam, creating bug fossil prints, creating pictures for our frames using loose parts, drawing our solar system and lots of other fun experiences!

The children in mouse room found a frog in the garden, the children were very intrigued in what it was. The adult showed them that it was a frog and said "ribbit, ribbit" the children copied, we then share the song five little speckled frogs using our hand puppet.🐸🐸

This week we invited the special men in our lives to our stay and play. There were lots of fun activities on offer, and they took part in all of them. We used paint to make cards and pictures, showed daddies and grandads our balancing skills on the planks in the garden, we played football and declared cookies too. As well as making marks with chalk in the tuff tray. Thank you to all the special people who came to join us

week, we decided to carry on the theme and search for flowers and wildlife. Although we didn’t spot any ducks, the children noticed a big grey squirrel, which was quite exciting. We also came across a variety of flowers in different shapes and colours. The pushchair rolled through some muddy patches, and we admired the long, wavy grass, which reminded us of the bear hunt story.

This week in the Mouse Room, we had a wonderful time exploring items commonly found in a bath. We set up a pretend bath using a box where the children took turns washing the baby dolls with flannels and various types of 'soap'. It was delightful to see some children join in and pretend to wash themselves or just relax in the bath
