Jan Lodjes' P1800 was one of our favourite entries for the recent Moto-Lita photo competition. The red leather on our Mark 4 dished wheel is a great match for the car's interior trim, don't you think?

'Why we love...' an Alfa Romeo

They say that if you haven't driven an Alfa Romeo, then you haven't truly driven and we think that's true pretty much across the board of these wonderful Italian cars.

With their light chassis, superb handling and some of the finest engines ever produced, driving an Alfa is truly an experience. We have some particular favourites, including the GT Junior with its racy looks and who doesn't love the 1750 Spyder with its timeless chic and the early 'coda tronca' (boat tail) models.

We love Alfa Romeo for its dedication to creating joyous handling, the use of twin-cam engines, disc brakes all round, and of course, classic Italian sports styling. Add this together and it's easy to see why Alfa Romeos of all ages are some of the greatest cars to have ever graced our roads.

The Classic Three adorned Lotus Sevens, Austin-Healey 3000s and countless Cooper-bodied racers through the 1960s.

A lovingly hand-varnished wooden rim. Three polished alloy spokes. Nothing more, nothing less.

There's a reason it has never really gone out of fashion. The proportions are right. The weight is right. Your hands know where to go the moment you grip it.

Pair it with a Jaguar restoration or a Morgan that's never left the family, and it simply belongs there, the way it always has.

Handcrafted in Britain since 1958. Tell us which classic you'd put one behind 🏁

'Why we love...' a Jensen-Healey

The Jensen Healey was a 2-seater sports car built between 1972 and 1976.

Launched in 1972 as a luxurious, convertible sports car, it was positioned to compete with the likes of more established models such as the Triumph TR6 and the Jaguar E-Type. A fastback version, the Jensen GT, was introduced in 1975.

At the prototype stage, various engines were trialled from Vauxhall, Ford and BMW. The Vauxhall 2.3 L engine met United States emission requirements but couldn't reach the power target of 130 hp. Similarly, efforts from BMW and Ford were fraught with manufacturing issues - cue Colin Chapman of Lotus, who offered a new 1973 cc Lotus 907 dual overhead cam, 16-valve all-alloy engine.

This multi-valve engine was the first modern dual overhead cam 4 valve per cylinder engine to be mass-produced on an assembly line. It gave approximately 144 bhp, had a top speed of 119 mph and accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds (8.1 seconds for the emission-controlled U.S. version).

We love the Jensen Healey for its bold lines, wonderful Lotus engine and that it dared to be a little different.

'Why we love...' The Ford Sierra
Produced from 1982, the Sierra was nicknamed the 'jelly mould' due its streamlined shape. A huge departure from its boxy Cortina predecessors, the Sierra's design had been alluded to in previous production and concept vehicles and it proved to be a huge hit, right from the start.

Available as a three or five-door liftback, four-door saloon (from 1987), five-door estate and five-door car-derived van, the Sierra quickly became popular with everyone from sales executives to taxi drivers, families and even track racers who loved the XR4i and Cosworth-engined models.

We love the Ford Sierra distinctive design which provided cues for manufacturers globally.

The making of a Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel

Every Moto-Lita wooden steering wheel begins with precision, patience, and passion, shaped, sanded, and varnished by hand in our Hampshire workshop.

From the first cut of aluminium to the final varnish of sapele wood, every stage is done the traditional way, ensuring your wheel not only looks beautiful, but feels perfect every time you drive.

Mary Armstrong sent us this image of a very clean and tidy MGB interior incorporating a dished, polished Moto-Lita Mk 3 with holes. Oh, and we approve of the model GT in front of the gear shift!

'Why we love...' The Ford Granada

Produced from 1972 initially in Ford factories in Cologne, Germany and Dagenham, England, production switched in 1976 entirely to Germany.

The Granada was available as a 2-door coupé, a 4-door saloon and 5-door estate and even appeared in limousine and hearse variants.

The sleeker, straighter second generation model (Mk2) was introduced in 1977, production of which continued until 1985. There was a subtle facelift in 1981 that addressed issues with drivetrain noise, vibration and harshness.

From 1985 to 1994, the third generation of Granada was produced, with the name being used in the UK and Ireland only, and sold in other European markets as the Ford Scorpio.

We love the Ford Granada for its enduring retro looks, acres of space and that it is still very visible on numerous TV shows from the 70s and 80s - who can forget the Sweeney or the Professionals?
