Audi UR Quattro freshly painted Tornado Road in Spectral 2k and 505-00 clear. This has been a sympathetic external repaint at the customers request as opposed to a restoration. Vehicle came to us with paintwork covered in silicones, some questionable filler work and minor issues in places on the metal. We were tasked with rectifying the issues we could see in the paintwork and making the car more presentable for the owner to enjoy and drive.

We continue to get a lot of enquiries about the rear arches on the E46 M3 and it got me thinking about which car had the worst. We’ve seen some from beginning to corrode on the inner arch to the arch actually missing but I think this car was the biggest surprise. The sealer on the inner was clinging on for life and hiding just how bad they were.
I have included a few pictures of different stages of the repairs. There is also a picture of a common area of corrosion lower front rear arch where corrosion starts behind the grommet and spreads behind the sealer. If you remove the grommet and feel the sealer lifting from the metal slightly then it’s begun. Replacement inner arches do not cover this area so it becomes an extra job to do at the same time but it’s a straight forward panel to make and replace.

One from few months back. We were tasked to fit an unknown body kit for this track Mk1 Golf. Honestly the fitment was not great but being fibreglass we knew it could be chopped and changed with some time and patience. The brief was whatever it takes to get it fitting correctly and matching the lines of the car. Front wings are carbon fibre which the owner wanted to keep them looking like. Considering they’d been painted before elsewhere the best option was to hand scotch them so not to get them too flat and apply one coat of colour. Doors had issues of severe micro blistering, and as they needed painting for a colour match the decision was taken to bare metal them externally.
Happy with the end results considering not a single item of this kit fit as it should.

Just a little update from us as we begin posting again under the STR Restohaus name.

Although things may have been quiet on social media recently, behind the scenes we’ve been busier than ever. Over the past few months we’ve been working on a wide range of projects, particularly classic Mercedes, BMWs and Volkswagens, alongside a variety of other specialist vehicles.

At the same time, we’ve also been investing time into improving and revamping the workshop as we continue building the business for the future.

Unfortunately we can’t go back and share everything from the last six months, but over time we’ll do our best to post some of the projects we’ve been involved with, alongside current and upcoming work.

We’re looking forward to sharing much more of what goes on behind the scenes here at STR Restohaus

A new chapter.

After many great years, Stellar Paintworks has now closed and a new chapter begins with STR RestoHaus.

After many highs along the way, we felt the best way to move forward was to start fresh with new ideas and focus. The first five months for STR RestoHaus have been very enjoyable and we’ll be sharing pictures and updates on current projects over social media in the near future.

We hope to create content that car enthusiasts can enjoy and build a page that brings positivity and interaction.

Well….what a job that was. Full E46 M3 coupe sill replacement using a 4 door sill. Anyone who’s enquired with BMW for a sill will know they’re 000s just for the part. 4 door sills £160 a pair off eBay. We’ve done part replacement before and seen videos of other companies replacing from below where the fixing holes are, but replacing the full sill into the door shut took some time. A lot of modifying and reshaping is needed but the labour hours and materials still make this the most cost effective option. Hopefully the n/s is kinder.
