We've got an interesting survey vessel in Brightlingsea at the moment. No prizes for guessing what her original job was. These boats are real beasts. Everything is over engineered. Real all weather vessels.

As usual we have some lovely worms on board the Galloper. I think this rag worm might be big enough to eat some of our fish! For those who haven't seen one before, yes they have 'teeth' and no they don't hurt. We can provide worms at extra cost if ordered in advance aboard Galloper from Brightlingsea Essex please call 07956411528 for more information

While the bass fishing might particularly good this year we don't like to get carried away chasing them all of the time. They have often been so easy we could rattle out out quota before doing some proper fishing. I'm far from a one trick pony and enjoy exploring the variety sea fishing can offer. We wouldn't have experienced the big catches of hounds, spurs and tope this year if going round in circles all day chucking metal and rubber around.
The thames tope can be hard work at the best of times but rewarding when it goes right. The average sizes are 35-45lb here. We don't often see the big numbers of pack tope but there's a very real possibility that the next fish could be over 70lb. The fish have been spread out this year. It makes them hard to dial in on but they have still been there. As always we saw lots of good fish caught and others lost but the ones that get away make for a good story. I'm just about finished for tope now although one or two might show in places. My main target offshore from now until December will be the bass on lures and lives, at anchor and on the drift. As I have done for over 20 years, as my dad did for many years before me and the great Essex skippers were long before I was a glint in dad's eye. I won't pretend it's anything new but I will continue to do it.

We are back on board the Ross Revenge and in the after again. This time a quick glance and the former 'overdrive' and 'world mission studio' in case you haven't guessed space can be pretty limited on a radio ship so the studio might not be what you would call roomy. You can briefly see the access down into the aft compartment too. These are in the stern of the ship behind the saloon and galley. I'll share some more clips with you when I get a chance.

We had a lovely wildlife trip the other day. We saw lots of seals enjoying a beach holiday and topping up their tans. It's been lovely being out on the water in this hot weather. To be honest I did feel a little envious of those seals being able to cool off. If you want to join us aboard the Galloper from Brightlingsea Essex please call 07956411528 for more information

I'll share some of the better fish from our tope season. Can't get enough of those screaming runs and violent takes. Our tope season is just about finished now but the bass will keep us occupied until the end of the year. Please contact 07956411528 for more information

We're concentrating most of our offshore effects on bass for the next few months and so far it's been a bumper season. The lads had another great trip on them the other day. We varied our day between lures on the drift and bait fishing at anchor. With countless fish on lures to start the day we tried a couple of marks at anchor which produced some better quality fish and a few other bits and pieces such as some small hounds.
Colin had the best fish of the day with a nice chunky bass. The lads all comfortably had their quota of 3 bass per person to take home.
I have spaces on offshore bass trips and general fishing over the coming weeks aboard Galloper from Brightlingsea Essex.

Unfortunately we blanked this afternoon! I blame the lack of transparency in the water. Might have helped if we had a stinger on I suppose? Maybe we will have to venture beyond the Colne next time?
Lovely meeting Jack today. That should be our last training course for the tuna. I'm looking forward to chasing dreams and making memories in Falmouth once again from September. I have a couple of spaces remaining if you want to join us. For an extra fee I might even let you use a hook!
