Right, we want your opinion on this one. π
We've been testing something in the workshop that could change how we do off-grid power. A Bluetti Elite 300 power station, paired with solar on the roof and a DC-to-DC charger off the alternator. It runs full 240V mains (kettle, induction hob, the lot) from a box small enough to lift out with one hand. We measured a steady 800W going into it just from driving.
One of us has been living with the bigger Apex 300 in their own camper for months now, and it's been brilliant. It just works. And the tiny footprint the Elite 300 takes up with the abilities it has including 12v/30a DC...just feels like its a good fit.
But here's the debate. With a traditional setup, every part is separate, so if your inverter fails you swap the one part and carry on. With a power station, it's all in one box, so if it breaks, the whole system goes down. The trade-off is size and simplicity against repairability.
So what would you have? The tidy all-in-one that runs proper 240V anywhere, or the traditional install you can fix part by part? Tell us in the comments, we genuinely want to know. π
