Burntisland & Kinghorn Rotary serves our community by helping and fundraising for international, national & local causes whilst having fun in so many ways. Volunteering Work with Rotary Changes Lives

Volunteering is at the centre of local community’s lives whether it be setting up local community foodbanks, clothing banks, responding to local and international disasters or helping to raise funds

for a specific need, there is a project or activity to suit everyone. By volunteering with Rotary, you know that you will be changing people’s lives for the better. Being part of Rotary is more than just giving back to the community by volunteering. It is also about you bringing your skills, experience and enthusiasm to help it thrive, whilst making some great friends along the way. Our club is a friendly place who invites speakers from a wide range of backgrounds to share their knowledge, our members also share a common interest in friendship and if you visit any of the other clubs around Great Britain and Ireland you will immediately feel the sense of camaraderie and fun. Share Skills by Volunteering for Rotary
Volunteering with Rotary could be the most important thing you ever do. Your skills and experience are invaluable in our drive to help communities at home and around the world through our volunteer work. Whether you become a member of Rotary or volunteer your time and abilities to your local club, you will be helping to make people’s lives better. Get Involved:
We work with local schools promoting wellbeing by involving the primary school children in our award winning Rotary Rambles, encouraging map reading, and other skills associated with outdoors. We are in close contact with our local schools, running annual Burns competitions, involving the children in the Rotary annual primary school quiz and running a Rotakids club within the schools. There are many ways to get involved with Rotary:
You could join us and open up a world of opportunities. You could volunteer to speak at a club about a cause or interest
If you are a school pupil, you could take part in a Rotary competition
You could volunteer to help the club in one of its initiatives, without becoming a Rotary member
If Rotary sounds like the organisation for you and you feel like volunteering some of your spare time, we’d like to hear from you! Simply visit our website at www.Burntisland.rotary1010.org and send a message to our secretary David, or join us at one of our meetings on Tuesday 6.45 pm for about 1 hour at The Sands Hotel, Burntisland. We are at present meeting by zoom and Ros our secretary will provide you with a link to the meeting. Once back at our meeting place we intend to diversify and hold face to face meetings combined with Zoom technology for those unable to attend in person.

Even the damp weather couldn't spoil such a special afternoon at President Lesley's afternoon tea party for Club members and their partners. Plenty of food , champagne and banter led to an absolutely fabulous get together to celebrate the past Rotary Year. Then the biggest surprise of all, 4 members of the Club were presented with either a Paul Harris award or additions to the one they already had. President Lesley was presented with a Paul Harris award+ 2 sapphires for the outstanding work she had done for the Club. Following that 3 other, Elaine David and treasurer Jo members were given enhancements to their previous Paul Harris awards, all presented by John Minhinick past RIBI President also a member of our Club. Thank you President Lesley and husband Bill for being number 1 Host and Hostess, it was great! Handover is on Tuesday and our new President David Kelley will be inducted then. We wish him a successful year in 2026/27.

What a successful impact day at Burntisland Primary School and Nursery. We met so many children and left books for others due to a visit from the Firefighters -Can't compete with a FIRE ENGINE VISIT. members collected over 500 pre-used, cherished books to distribute for the children to choose, take home and keep. Our thanks go once again to the school for allowing us to take forward this project and to all the staff who helped on the day. Our aim if this is successful is to move on to the next school in our community and repeat this action.
By taking part in this project, Rotary is helping children to develop the literacy skills and imagination by providing them with the opportunity to read at home, as well as supporting the environment- 13 million plus books per year go to landfill !

Rotary Books4 Home- IMPACT DAY

Coffee time, Phew! Having a great morning with pupils from Burntisland Primary School. Rotary Books4 Home Project has landed! 700 pre-loved nearly new books collected in the community by Rotary Club members to be given to children at the school to take home and keep.
Pleased to say that all the books were handed out throughout the day, one way or another. We managed to meet the children from primary classes 1- 5, the children were so appreciative and thanked us on the way out. Nursery and classes 6,7 had their books delivered by school staff the next day- we couldn’t compete with a visit from the Fire-station.! It was so nice to talk and meet such well behaved children and our thanks go to the Head Teacher and all the staff for their help. Over 500 books were given to pupils in Burntisland Primary and each child was made to feel special by choosing and being allowed to take home and keep a book of their choice.
Excess books will hopefully be used for our next challenge in another Primary School.

Pre-read books means not only a chance to share great stories but also help save the environment by reducing the 13 million books going to landfill each year.

Kinghorn Gala Day:

What Rotarians do best ! The rain held off allowing us to set up a tombola stall at Kinghorn Annual Gala Day, but It was challenging as it was so windy, however delighted that so many children came to the stall and bought tickets to support our fundraising effort. It was great to see so many members of the community supporting this event. Hope everyone had a great time and the royal party enjoyed themselves.

Last Tuesday we were delighted to give a warm welcome to Anne Wilson. Anne was inducted into the Club by President Lesley and is our newest member. The members have met Anne several times as a guest and she was even brave enough to turn up one evening as our speaker. Anne is an experienced hat maker and brought along lots of samples for members to model. The men weren't to happy, but gave a sigh of relief that they weren't asked to model. Next time guys!

Today’s the day folks. 😀

Rotary Clubs of Fife: Pilgrim Way Walk in aid of “Fife Young Carers”
12 Rotary Clubs in Fife will be lacing up their boots for a very special challenge, walking the entire Fife Pilgrim Way in a single day, in aid of “Fife Young Carers”.
Teams of walkers will set off across seven stages of this historic 64 mile (104km) route, which stretches between North Queensferry or Culross and the ancient city of St. Andrews. Each team will begin their stage at 9.30am, with the final group departing at 11.30am and arriving in St Andrews at 4.00pm. Members of the public are warmly invited to join in for any stage they choose
The seven stages:
Participants can choose from the following stages, each accessible by public transport at both the start and end points.
North Queensferry to Dunfermline- 8.5 miles
Culross to Dunfermline - 8.5 miles,
Dunfermline to Kelty - 8.5 miles,
Kelty to Glenrothes - 11.5 miles,
Glenrothes to Kennoway - 8.5 miles,
Kennoway to Ceres - 8.5 miles,
Ceres to St Andrews - 9.5 miles,
Why are they walking?
At the heart of this event is Fife Young Carers, an organisation that supports young people up to the age of 25 who are caring for family members living with ill-health, disability, learning disabilities or substance dependency. These remarkable young people balance education, work, and their own wellbeing alongside providing essential care at home- often at great personal cost.
As the Rotary Clubs of Fife put it simply: by walking the Pilgrim Way, their members are helping to ensure that young carers are not walking alone:
How to get involved:
Simply support the cause from home, or come and cheer them on at any of the starting points or if you see them along the way say Hi!
Those walking are being given the opportunity to explore some of Fife’s finest countryside and heritage while making a real difference to the lives of young people across the region. Whether you donate, or spread the word, your support matters.

"Walking the footsteps of Pilgrims"
The Fife Pilgrim Way follows the paths once trodden by medieval pilgrims, passing through some of the region’s most historically significant landmarks. Along the route, walkers will encounter Culross Abbey, the Friary at Inverkeithing, the ancient stone circles at Balbirnie, St Margaret’s Shrine, the iconic Forth Bridges and the magnificent St. Andrew’s Cathedral at journey’s end. It is a route rich in history, natural beauty, and a sense of shared purpose-making it a fitting backdrop for a walk in support of young people in our community.
To sponsor the walkers or donate , visit the teams Just Giving Page at www.justgiving.com/team/rotary-pilgrimwaywalk
Where donations to support either the whole team or individuals are gratefully received.
