I had a big job on last week to change the engine on a Fiat van , I don’t normally do engine swaps for secondhand ones but after speaking to the customer he understood the work required.

He wanted the job done correctly,to last not a slap the engine in with no new parts and expect it to be perfect.

So after a few discussions and him getting parts together I continued with the following work,

swap engine and ancillaries
New timing chain kit
New sump
New water pump
New clutch
New thermostat housing
New oil and genuine filter

The new engine had only 40,000 miles on it and look how far the timing chain tensioner was out 😬

Once it was all together the new engine ran a peach!!

It’s good when a well planned job comes together, credit to Clint for supplying good quality parts 👍

This last few weeks I’ve had a mixed bag of close and further away jobs from returning and new customers, here’s a few 👇

Skoda for discs and pads all round + an oil change, I fit these a few years ago and despite doing enough miles the poor quality brakes that he supplied have corroded and warped so he had me back to fit some good quality parts 👍

After my tool box being in the van for about two years it’s gained some weight and wasn’t happy not having any upper mounting points so I took it all out and reinforced it 👍

Astra for a cambelt, I was recommended to this customer as he was struggling to find a reputable mechanic to change the cambelt on his newly acquired car with only 45,000 miles on it with no cambelt history l. I was more than happy to do it for him on the drive. 📍Walsall

Peugeot partner for a well overdue service, I found some other faults and the customer has booked them in for repairs 👌📍bushbury

Honda for an alternator identified by the AA as faulty, which they couldn’t do as it involved removing a coolant pipe and apparently they don’t do that 🤯 they advertise 8/10 cars fixed at the road side not sure how if they won’t take a pipe off. 📍Cannock

Nissan juke for a early Saturday morning service
I’ve serviced this car for a number of years it was finally due spark plugs which required the inlet manifold to be moved over for access .

Had a variety of jobs lately which is nice to keep me on my toes 😂👇

Passat for a Cambelt and water pump, this was the Cambelt jobs one drive away from failure very very lucky 📍 Featherstone

I didnt get a photo of this Vauxhall combo but I did the repairs needed, it broke down in penkridge because a mouse had eaten a injector spill pipe for its tea 🤦‍♂️ luckily I carry this pipe on the van, once I bled the fuel system i noticed the alternator belt was hanging on for dear life, I sorted all that and was back on the road same day. 📍Penkridge

Clio for a ac radiator 👍📍codsall

Polo for a service + exhaust clamp + lower arm bushes WITH tracking I get under a lot of cars that’s had suspension work and the tracking hasn’t been touched it’s really bad workmanship. 📍Featherstone

BMW 3.0l strait 6 diesel lovely motor apart from going into limp mode because of a boost leak, customer supplied the inlet manifold and I fit it.
Someone had been there before and left a bolt loose also 🤦‍♂️ with the new manifold and a lot of soot removed from the egr pipe it runs spot on 👌 📍willenhall

It’s gone pretty busy lately not had time to do any posts.

Here’s some of the jobs I’ve been up to 👇

Citroen for a clutch due to high biting point, it was at the end of its life as you can see compared to the new one. 📍unit

Vw Tiguan for a broken spring 📍Telford

Porsche Boxster for a service + brake pipe + window regulator this is the customers pride and joy I was more than happy to complete a few jobs on it to keep it in good shape. 📍unit

Fiat for a new sump and exhaust flexi I did this one at the unit as it needed to be left overnight for the sealer on the sump to cure and it was cheaper travel wise for the customer to bring it to me. 📍unit

I’ve not took many photos this week some of my customers prefer to not have there vehicles posted as they like to keep there vehicles off social media to not publicise the location or other reasons, I’m more than happy to honour that.

Mercedes for a minor service this had no major issues except for slightly play in the front wheel bearings which I adjusted while it was jacked up 👌. 📍Bridgetown.

Skoda fabia I checked the vehicle recently for brake fluid loss it was the rear wheel cylinders leaking brake fluid, I came back and replaced the shoes and cylinders along with a good clean up. 📍Weaton Aston.

Renualt Clio in for a clutch fault

The clutch felt normal at the pedal but wouldn’t disengage drive, I suspected the clutch was at fault possibly something jamming it together.

That was the case when I removed the gearbox the friction material had came away from the friction plate.

This car had only done 68,000 miles but was a ex driving instructors car, it shows how driving style affects wear and tear parts such as the clutch, These normally last 130,000/150,000 miles.
