A little ASMR, a bit of steam, and those satisfying carpet lines 🤌🏼

The boot is an easy area to overlook, but achieving a quality finish means paying attention to the details, including the areas you don’t immediately see.

The carpet is lifted to access areas underneath, carefully cleaned and finished to leave a fresh, uniform appearance.

Cars just don’t sound like this anymore. 🔊

A 2004 Subaru Forester. A proper old-school car that deserves to be looked after.

This one came in for a Level 2 Interior Deep Clean, bringing the cabin back to a fresh, well-maintained standard.

I also carried out a headlight restoration to improve the appearance of the headlights, restore clarity and give the car a more refreshed overall look.

It’s always satisfying working on older vehicles. They have character, they have history, and with the right care, there’s plenty of life left in them.

Hydro Armour 12-month paint protection.

Can a £19.99 spray-on protection survive the Welsh winter? 👀

Hydro sent me their Hydro Armour to put to the test on this BMW X5. It’s a SiO₂ polymer protection designed to bond to the paint and provide up to 12 months of protection against the elements.

The kit includes:
▪️ 500ml Hydro Armour
▪️ Spray trigger
▪️ 2 microfibre cloths

Application is straightforward, but longevity is what really matters. I’m not going to claim it lasts 12 months before I’ve actually tested it.

I’ve applied Hydro Armour to one half of the bonnet, with a separate 12-month ceramic sealant on the other. I’ll be checking both sides during the vehicle’s monthly maintenance washes and sharing updates right here on the page.

Will it last the full 12 months? How will it handle rain, road salt and the Welsh weather? And how will it compare against the alternative protection?

QUESTION: Hydrophobic or hydrophilic. Which do you prefer?

Hydrophobic protection repels water, creating beading and helping water roll off the surface. Hydrophilic protection attracts water, encouraging it to spread into a more uniform sheet.

Both approaches have their place, and water behaviour alone doesn’t tell the whole story of a coating’s durability.

Cloudy, faded headlights? The difference is clear! 🙌🏼

This headlight restoration on a 2004 silver Subaru Forester involved more than just a quick polish. That’s right, these headlights are nearly TWENTY TWO years old!!!

The process included removing the degraded, UV-damaged surface through controlled wet sanding, refining the lens with compound and machine polishing, then using Carbon Collective Panel Prep to prepare the surface before applying a ceramic coating for lasting protection against UV damage and future deterioration.

The result? A much clearer finish, sharper appearance and a headlight properly protected after restoration.

Faded or deteriorated headlights can also contribute to an MOT failure if they affect light output, so restoring them is about more than just appearance.

BMW M2 CS. 25 seconds. One maintenance clean.

Wait till the end for that lovely exhaust note 😮‍💨

This M2 CS is fully PPF’d and regularly exposed to one of the biggest enemies of a clean car here in Wales, trees. 🌳

Regular maintenance is what keeps a car like this looking its best without allowing contamination, dirt and grime to build up between deeper details.

With every vehicle, particular attention is paid to the areas that require specialist knowledge and care. On this one, that includes the carbon ceramic brakes, where the correct approach and products are especially important.

A clean interior is one thing. Keeping it protected is another.

This BMW X5 was booked in for an interior deep clean, with the leather safely cleaned and degreased to remove built-up dirt and oils.

On this occasion, the leather seats, wheel and leather trim were then protected using Platinum Leather, helping to protect and maintain the finish for longer.

It’s all about getting the vehicle back to the right standard and then protecting that result properly.

Is a pump sprayer actually worth having for car detailing? 👀

Hydro kindly sent me their V2 Pump Sprayer, Pre Wash and Snow Foam to put through their paces — so I tested them as part of a real-world wash.

As a professional detailer, I think there’s definitely a place for a pump sprayer like this.

If you already use a pre-wash as part of your wash process, being able to apply it and let it work as you’re setting up can be really useful. Alternatively, as a DIY’er with just a hose, the Hydro pump sprayer paired with pre and snow will probably be one of your best tools to help you keep your car looking fresh!

A few things genuinely impressed me with the Hydro sprayer and products:

• Around 10–11 pumps gives me enough pressure to comfortably cover roughly a quarter of a car
• I can pressurise it while holding it in the air, rather than having to put it on the ground and use a lot of force
• The different nozzles make switching between Pre Wash and Snow Foam straightforward
• The dilution markings make getting the correct mix nice and simple
• The products themselves work well and are economical
• Pre and snow both smell AMAZING! Like wow!

For my own day-to-day detailing, I’ll still reach for my pressure washer and snow foam lance when I’m doing a full detail.

But for pre-wash application, when I’m away for track days, shows or simply keeping your car fresh while you’re away from home, I can see this being genuinely useful.

And if you don’t have a pressure washer at all, it gives you another way of incorporating a proper pre-wash stage into your wash routine.

Overall verdict: genuinely impressed. 👍
