๐ฆWhen I started doing this job over 8 years ago, a bad day at the office for me used to be a learner not passing their driving test.
โ
However, I quickly realised that the 'test' is a tick box exercise and doesn't take into account the true skill set of that driver.
๐ค How can 35 minutes possibly be a true reflection of what a good driver looks like?
๐ I just want to say that not every success story starts with a pass certificate.
Today, one of my learners didn't get the result they were hoping for on the driving test.
โค๏ธBut here's what I'm proud of: they walked away recognising just how far they had come. They didn't feel like a failure, they felt they were winning.
๐Proud parents seeing how far they had come and finally seeing their child happy and supported on this rollercoaster of a journey.
๐The lack of confidence and self belief was so sad to see. Saying 'sorry' for doing absolutely nothing wrong.
๐ We've worked so incredibly hard not just with confidence but getting to a test standard but sadly the driving test can be decided by one moment.
โค๏ธWhat matters most is that they know how well they drove, how much they have improved, and that one result does not define them.
๐ซถAs an instructor, I celebrate passes, but I'm equally proud of my learners who pick themselves up, learn from the experience, and keep moving forward.
We take what we've learned, keep building on the progress already made, and go again.
๐ซถIf you're learning to drive and worried about making mistakes, remember: progress isn't always a straight line, but with the right support and determination, you'll get there.
๐ Keep going. Your licence is still waiting for you.
To anyone reading this, you've got this. ๐
