This week brought us quite an unexpected repair! 🫣

A TF came in to the workshop with what the owner described as a strange “bogging down” issue after the vehicle randomly cut out on him and felt very underpowered on acceleration following him being able to get it going again.

A quick code read and live data diagnostics session revealed -

1. An inlet manifold issue,
2. A cam position sensor failure,
3. Catalytic converter failure,
4. A lambda sensor fault,
5. Other generic fault codes

While rectifying those issues, we also found that there were various inlet manifold bolts missing which had caused the gasket to seperate, a failed exhaust hanger which has resulted in a very melted rear bumper & a significant oil leak around the cambelt area. Upon removing the cambelt cover, we found an oil-soaked, shredded cambelt which had caused the timing to jump a couple of teeth and a bent cambelt tensioner bolt, in turn, leading to bent valves in the cylinder head.

Not the kind of phone calls we like making to customers - especially when it’s one piece of bad news after another, but we can only report what we find.

It’s such a shame that what was meant to be a cheap summer runaround for the owner, has now turned into quite an expense for him. The go-ahead has been given though and hopefully it will be plain sailing next week! 🤞

Another week filled with variety! 🚗🔧

We’ve had it all this week - MOTs, welding, suspension repairs, cambelts, servicing, rust protection treatments, another head gasket replacement, brakes, exhausts, diagnostics, recoveries, a clutch repair and much more. 🥰

This is the result of a non-genuine expansion cap failure... 🫣

The owner advised us that it had only been fitted 4 weeks earlier. It caused the vehicle to overheat and the expansion bottle to split, allowing coolant to rapidly escape.

Fortunately, the vehicle was in the right place at the right time, and we were able to rectify the issue immediately by fitting a new genuine cap and replacement bottle once it had all cooled down.

Always only use genuine caps guys! This could have easily led to an expensive repair cost if it had happened while being driven.

Another busy week in the workshop! 🔧

We’ve retrimmed another set of MG ZS door cards, completed another recovery, rebuilt and skimmed a few cylinder heads and handled a steady stream of diagnostics and servicing. On top of that, we squeezed in two last-minute breakdown repairs brought in by the AA and, of course, kept up with our regular MOT schedule. 💪

Next week is shaping up to be just as varied, with a TF in for a clutch replacement, a couple more underbody rust protection treatments, some steering and suspension work, and of course, plenty more MOTs! 😁

Not as hectic a week as usual, so fewer photos, but still plenty getting done in the workshop! 😁

We’ve carried out a VVC mechanism replacement and cambelt change on a Monogram Celestial Blue ZR, handled two more recoveries (one from Measham and another from Burton), and also met a customer in Stoke for his TF. We then brought it back to Derby for its MOT, some general repairs, and servicing, then drove it back over to Stoke for collection the next day, roof down in the sunshine, of course! 🥰

Alongside that, it’s been a steady flow of MOTs and diagnostic work as always and some more second hand parts sales.

And on a personal note, I got my son sorted with his own Mk2 Rover 45 after he passed his driving test last week! 👌😁
