We thought we would take a moment so say a big 'Thank you' to everyone who has reviewed us on Trustpilot. 516 of you have taken the time so far, giving us a TrustScore of 4.9 out of 5. We're grateful for every one, and we've shared a few recent favourites below.

As Ian likes to say, there's no such thing as a scale tree. Choosing the right one for a layout, diorama or model takes a bit of know-how, and we'd always rather help you choose than leave you guessing. It's good to see that come through in what you've written.

Bought from us? We'd love your review on Trustpilot: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.themodeltreeshop.co.uk 🌲

Some modellers would rather build their trees than buy them finished. If that's you, a tree making kit is a very satisfying way to spend an evening.

Our WWS Realistic Tree Making Kits from WWScenics give you the materials to make your own unique trees. You trim the supplied plastic and seafoam trees to shape the trunks and branches, glue them together, then add the themed foliage. No two come out the same, which is exactly the point. Glue and modelling tools aren't included, so have those ready.

There are three versions, Spring, Winter and Dead, so you can match the kit to the season or the mood of your scene. The Dead kit, for example, includes eight 14cm plastic trees, ten thin seafoam trees, dead static grass, a dead leaf foliage mix and forest ground cover.

They suit diorama builders who want full control over every shape, and anyone who enjoys the making as much as the finished scene. A kit also makes a thoughtful gift for a modeller who likes to build.

Every season asks something different of your scenery, and getting the colours right is often what makes a scene believable. Here's a starting point for three of them.

Autumn: warm ambers, rusts and fading greens. Our Autumn Trees range does the heavy lifting, and Autumn Meadow static grass carries that colour down to ground level. A scatter of dried leaves along the verges finishes it off.

Winter: this one is about restraint. Bare branches, muted earth and pale, tired grass. Winter Meadow static grass sets the tone, pines with a dusting of snow add contrast, and the winter version of the WWS Realistic Tree Making Kit lets you build your own bare trees.

Spring and summer: fresh greens that deepen as the year goes on. Spring Meadow static grass gives you that new growth feel, a twisted wire cherry blossom adds a burst of colour, and OO scale snowdrops along a bank say early spring.

Not sure what suits your scale? Ask us. That's what we're here for.

What season are you building? Tell us in the comments 🌲

This time of year, the most common question we get is how to make a layout look like autumn.

You don't need to redo a whole layout to change the season. Drop one or two autumn trees into a green scene and it immediately reads as late in the year. A single amber tree at the edge of a wood, or a pair along a lane, does more than you'd expect.

Our Autumn Trees range runs from 55mm up to 130mm, so there's something for N gauge and OO alike, plus an autumnal walnut if you want a broader canopy. For a deep, rich colour that works in any season, our copper beech trees sit well alongside them, from small 80mm trees through to larger specimens.

Carry the colour down to the ground with Autumn Meadow static grass, in 2mm, 4mm and 6mm. And if you're buying for an N gauge modeller, there's an Autumn N Gauge Gift Set too.

There's no such thing as a scale tree, so if you're not sure which height suits your scene, ask us.

Building terrain for your tabletop games? Here are five materials that make the biggest difference to how a board looks and plays:

Trees are the obvious one, and getting the scale right matters more than people expect. Ian's line is always the same: there's no such thing as a scale tree, only the right tree for your project, so pick a height that suits your figures rather than whatever looks good on the shelf.

Static grass gives your basing and open ground real texture and depth, far more convincing than flat paint.

Scatter material is what turns a plain green board into believable foliage and undergrowth, layered in a few different shades for the best effect.

Flexible hedging is brilliant for linear terrain features, hedgerows, field boundaries, anything that needs to bend around a layout.

And cork sheet is the easy way to build up hills and rough ground without any real building skill required.

Any other tips for our readers? Tell us in the comments.

There's something brilliant about seeing what customers build with our materials, and this week we want to shine a light on wargaming terrain.

Whether you're building trenches, ruins, or a sprawling tabletop battlefield, the right scenic materials make all the difference to how a table reads at eye level. We love seeing the results, from first attempts through to genuinely stunning builds.

If you've used any of our trees, foliage, or ground cover in a wargaming project, we'd love to see it. Share your build in the comments and we'll pick some of our favourites to feature.

And if wargaming isn't your thing, don't worry, we want to see everything: railways, dioramas, architectural models, all of it. Every hobby is welcome here...🌲

One more sleep until the International N Gauge Show, and we will be parked up on Stand 27/28 for both days, right next to Train Trax.

Yes, it says N gauge on the tin. No, we will not be checking gauges at the door. Whether you are OO, N, O, T, deep into wargaming terrain, building a diorama, or working in architectural scale, trees do not care what you build, and neither do we, we love trees and are happy to help. Come and talk trees with us, whatever you are working on.

If your layout has a scenic-shaped gap you have been ignoring, let's talk. We will help you figure out what it actually needs, and there is bulk discount pricing on the day if you want to stock up while you are there.

The International N Gauge Show is just 3 days away, and we'll be there both days on Stand 27/28 at the Warwickshire Event Centre, alongside Train Trax.

It's an N gauge show, but trees and scenic materials don't know the difference between scales. If sorting the scenic side of your layout has been sitting on the to-do list, this is a good excuse to come and talk it through in person, with bulk discount pricing available on the day.

Not sure what you need? Drop us a message any time this week, or just find us on the stand, we're always happy to talk trees.

Not all OO gauge scenic materials do the same job. Here is a quick breakdown of what each one is actually for:

Twisted wire trees earn their place as feature trees that will be looked at closely. The cost and time per tree is harder to justify for areas further from the viewer, though some modellers use them throughout a scene where budget allows.

Heki trees sit in the middle ground. Ready-made, with more natural variation than standard plastic, they hold up well at OO gauge even when placed closer to the viewer. A strong choice for convincing woodland without the build time of twisted wire.

Plastic trees work best for background coverage where viewing distance does the work. Fast to place and economical across large areas, though the uniformity of moulded trees reads more naturally at a distance than up close.

Etched brass trees are for layouts where close inspection is the point. Exhibition standard, and priced accordingly.

Ground cover and scatter is not optional. Trees need to be rooted into something, and bare board underneath them is the thing that reads as wrong even when people cannot say why.

A scale chart is worth having before you order anything. At OO gauge, a 100mm tree represents around 25 feet in real life. Getting the height range right first means fewer decisions to unpick later.

What are you working on at the moment? Tell us in the comments and we will point you in the right direction.
