We work and breath the motor trade for near 50 years, this can be from servicing for rally teams all over the UK working along side ex WRC winners to people just out for fun. We started this page to show people what we do in and out the garage when it comes to fixing there cars and what we do/did to get the job done. This has had a fantastic success and many others have 'tried' to copy ;-). We have a loyal customer base from public to trade and have always followed us. We love what we do and thank our customers for letting us have this chance to do it for a living. From working in main dealerships to repairing fast jets and aircraft to rally car prep and salvage we have a wide experience in the motor car industry. We pride ourself on a successful outcome in the repair of what is brought to the garage and give it 100%, we keep customers up to date with every part of the job and give honest advise. We don't believe in big fancy buildings or silly gimmicks just a good service and the money saved passed on to the customers and equipment to make sure the job is done the best it can be if not better.

We are getting there !

We even had time to do a risk assessment this week between jobs !, the outcome was, putting a plastic hard hat on, while climbing racking wont make any difference if you were to fall.....so send it. 💀

So a few customers/trade and public engines are built and ready to head out to other workshops, or to be fit here ASAP. Next on the engine build bench is a CVH fiesta turbo, a zetec turbo and a cosworth. Cos-its-worth it...... 😔......between, and mixed in with other work.

Anyway, we have also bought some racking, the workshop was starting to look a right mess, mainly due to people dropping parts off for their cars to be built up, and us lacking the space, so this will protect them parts, and keep them safe. It also aids in speeding things up giving us needed space.

The workshop is only small BUT has 3 ramps in it and cars on the ground. We are getting close with a few cars now and we will be getting into the ones waiting for welding next, and a few paint jobs to get some engines fit.

👀 more updates soon !

Remember, please dont ask, if we have news, we will contact you. The last thing we need is to loose so much time every day answering messages and calls.... asking if we have had time to get a job done. Time doesn't pause sadly when we have to spend 40% to 60% of the day replying. I get it, but sadly i need to whip Craig .... and he whips me back, to crack on.

Very very best efforts are always given to get these cars done for you. Also in a very best budget. Then there is the paperwork, the VAT and tax returns, insurance and all sorts of other things mixed in ! Sob story i know, but you get the idea 🙂🙂

Obviously we dont just fix, build and tune fast Ford's. If we did, it would mean the prices of the repairs would be way off the scale needed, mainly due to the time focused into them, and people only have a set budget, so we do them mixed in with other work.

To keep the business with a cash flow, we also work on a range of cars and vans, carrying out a mass of different types of electrical, mechanical and paint repairs.

This was a nice bit of feedback to receive from the C Class we recently repaired.

One of the engine builds, this one's David's S2 forged motor.

He recently bought the car, his brother Paul also has a mega S2. Sadly the engine, when he bought it, he knew just wasnt right, even though it has just had an engine build. (Who by, we dont get involved with).

The car itself is a really nice example so he bought the car, as an engine rebuild vs a ginger rusty shed is far easier to sort.

One interesting thing spotted on the orginal engine was the main and big end bearings weren't locked or fitted into the caps. I think this was the cause of the ware. Im not sure if this is due to the wrong size bearings been used, or the wrong bearings,.....

The caps were measured to make sure the block hasn't been line bored in the past or from the facotry, as we have seen that before !!!! But no issues there.

So measurements, cleaning, machine work, this engine will soon be ready to be fit. Again, we have rebuilt the turbo as it was like a spoon in a soup bowl for play on the main shaft. Also a C&G Motorsport clutch which has been our go to for around 20 years.

Anyway, the builds about there. This again is another car ticked off.

When you get a call from Pool, and its an ex Royal Signals freind, aka Pad dad. You know things have happened. No he wasnt SBS.... he was to good !

This is one of them, that blows our mind, and we see it far to much.

If you ever want to know why your car insurance cost so much, this is definitely part of the reason.

The Mercedes here, was involved in a rear end bump, low speed, both parties insured. Full blame accepted by the lad who made a mistake, so no legal battles etc.......

BUT this car was wrote off ! (Damage repairable, so can/is going back on the road)

The quote to repair the car was near to £12000, thats correct, 12k !!!!!!

The price was for all sorts of things not needed, like an Add blue tank, tow bar, the list is endless.

All we needed, was a rear bumper, and bumper mounts and plastic fittings. Also a little pull on a jig to pull a small dent near the rear light and on the rear back panel.

Our bill, was less than 20% of the price !!!!!!! Oh and that includes an MOT and a full service.

How we start every rebuild.

The blocks are always paint stripped first. This one was about 2mm thick in paint and lifting all over, so we use a mix of tools, but mainly a gental needle tool. Here's a little video, we normal can do this one handed, so ideal time for a cup of Yorkshire tea !

I will get some photos of the build itself up next. And go over whats done to build some mega reliable engines that give smiles for miles and miles.

Just a bit of information, and something for some reason we have been ask a couple of times this past month, which is, 'have i been supplied the wrong bearings' ?, or 2 of the same half.

The answer is no, you havnt been supplied two tops or 2 bottoms etc. There is 2 types of bearings, and there is a different set for an S1 time period block and then the 1988 onwards style like found in the S2 Escorts.

So the full groove, on the right are upto 1988. So more the earlier blocks.

These are known as a full groove or half groove set. As you can see in the pictures, there very different and one wont fit the other. Just an answer to a question to hopefully help you out.

Looking fresh 😎 another leap forward.

Update time 📰

Well, the weeks flow by yet again, and a day in this mad house, is like an hour in the real world.

Anyway, we have been pushing hard. One of the many jobs this week, has now seen Craig's the Welsh boyo's S2, into some frozen white paint, meaning Craig here, (AKA Ishmael) can start to put the car together. There is a fair bit to do on it, like making a fresh engine loom etc. There are few little areas to fettle in the paint, where we have a tiny run in an edge..... (oh god dont tell the truth on social media 😂😂) but over all, the paint has come out of the gun, as close to glass as we can get it.

So with that one done, and a good job for Craig to be on with. We can start next week with focus on getting a plan in motion to move forward on the other cars. Yes Simon, Andy, Andy, Phil, Pauline, Alan and Simon that mean you lovely lot 😀🙃

Anyhow, if your board, here's a video of how the S2 looks from the gun. Sadly the camera on my phone isnt the best, and im not to interested in been a youtube star, and buying a better one..... so here you go.

So close to this S2 been ready for a blow job. In a nice frozen white. Then Craig can be on the build up of her. This one is from next door to uncle Bryn, from Gavin and Stacey from Wales.

Now this just goes to show, in our trade what we have to sort, whats not seen, and why no workshop doing these sort of retro/classic cars car stick to a time line/diary.

Even sanding a shell for just paint, you can find past work buried. What do you do.... hide it like others or sort it. This was one of them sort of repairs, we wont ignore what we find. A small rust blister/dot, then sanded down, showed a past repair. So unlike alot we carnt just leave it, as it will come back, so we decided to make a new bit of metel and get it welded in place.

After this cars painted, we are on a Red S2 from Wales, a 1600i 👀 a Sierra and a grey S2 along with a little red rs 1800 we have had way to long. These all need the hot glue gun.

They will all have a tickle with the hot glue at the same time between each other.

We also sorted the front wing and A post area, there has been some new wings fit at some point in the cars life, which now had some surface rust under the seam sealant. Once we removed it, wire wheeled it all, it was treated with a rust converting chemical and etched.

Mixed in with that, is a load of engine builds and car builds in general.

Before you lot ask..... 'when will mine be ready', we are trying our very best.

Prop-shaft....ed.

One of the more modern jobs, this is a VW tiggy 4 motion.

Main bearing failure on the propshaft. I know alot fit a new shafts as it can be easier..... but when you work on old fords.... you get used to things not been easy !

Anyway, another regualr local, back on the road.

Remember, propshafts are balanced, make sure you mark them how/where they joined, then reassemble them in the same order !
