The gift that kept on giving…
This Volvo V40 was recovered as a non start ❌
Initially it would fire but cut out straight away
Codes stored for map sensor performance
On removal of the map sensor, it was choked solid 👎🏻
We cleaned that up and put it back, but it begged the question, what was the inlet and EGR cooler like…
The EGR coolers are a common failure point on these, we removed the inlet and cooler to find the cooler choked solid also ❌
A genuine EGR cooler fitted and the vehicle would start again but…
The intercooler hose was collapsing and starving the engine of air. Something was creating a vacuum…
On these, the inlet side of the turbo is that close to the chassis theres no room to remove and get a hand in ❌
So sliding the dpf to the side is the easier option. When running, the turbo wasn’t spinning 👎🏻
When we started taking the old turbo off, we found a rag in the compressor side 😳
The customer advised that the vehicle had ‘run on’ and they used the rags to starve the engine of air 👎🏻
Because of this, the job got a little more involved
A new turbo from Turbo Dynamics with new genuine oil feed and gaskets ✅
Intercooler and pipes drained and flushed ✅
Oil and filter change ✅
Then we were back up and running as normal 🥳 finally 😅
Most garages will agree im sure… but having as much info / backstory when a car is booked in helps our diagnostic process
