A quick reminder that catches a lot of learners out:
it’s not just checking — it’s checking in a way that’s visible, timely, and linked to what you do next.

A simple pattern that helps:
Check → Decide → Act

Check: mirror + (if needed) blind spot

Decide: what’s changed / what you’ll do

Act: signal / position / change speed / move off

The common mistake is doing a mirror glance that looks like habit — then changing speed or position with no clear link.

If you want, comment “MIRRORS” and I’ll write a plain-English checklist for:
moving off, changing lanes, and pulling in/pulling out.

(If you’re local to Havant/Waterlooville and learning with me, this is one we’ll drill calmly until it’s automatic.)

Feeling confident doesn’t always mean you’re test-ready.

Some learners feel confident but aren’t quite meeting test standards.
Others feel nervous even when they’re driving well.

That gap causes a lot of frustration — for learners and for parents.

Here at PassLab, the focus is on calmer, clearer learning:
• understanding common mistakes
• spotting patterns early
• practising with purpose rather than pressure

This page will share practical guidance, explanations, and tools to help make learning to drive feel more structured and less overwhelming.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all pupils past and present.

To the white van driver who sat on his horn because my student stalled at the roundabout yesterday: You were a learner once, too. 🤫

Stalling is a part of learning. Bullying a 17-year-old is a choice.

Why is it that the second people get their full licence, they lose every ounce of patience for the people trying to earn theirs?

Learners: What’s the worst "bully" move a driver has pulled on you recently? Let's call them out. 👇

READ THIS BEFORE YOU BOOK YOUR NEXT TEST. 🛑

You’ve done the hours. You’ve spent the money. But the 6-month wait times and the 48% national pass rate are terrifying.

Most learners fail on 'Silly Faults' simply because they’ve never been shown the exact marking criteria examiners use.

I’m Dan @ PassLab, a qualified ADI, and I’m changing that. I’ve spent years analyzing why students fail, and I’ve condensed everything I know into my Pass-Ready Master Guides. No fluff—just the markers, the reference points, and the nerves-management you actually need.

Take the pressure off. Junction decisions can be calm.

Many learners either hesitate too long or rush out, then feel unsure about their decision.

• Slow your approach early so you have time to look properly
• Check mirrors first, then look left and right
• Wait a beat, then decide so you can see clearly

Calm decisions are smoother and safer.

Save this for your next lesson or practice drive.
Next junction you reach, try it once.

Have you packed your winter emergency kit?

If you’re driving in snowy or icy conditions, having certain items on hand means you’ll be prepared if you get stuck or if your vehicle breaks down.

You might want to pack:

🔦 a torch
🧣 warm clothing
🥾 boots
🩺 a first aid kit
🚗 jump leads
🧰 a shovel
