Seaking Gate Guardian Update #2
An update on the Paint Restoration on the Seaking, and I’m pleased to say one side ( of the red ) is pretty much complete.
Hopefully those driving into Helston can see the difference, she is a lot more Red than pink 🫠.
No one wants a pink cab coming to pick them
up out of the drink now do they 🌊🚁.
It’s been a job that has required a lot of adapting, which I don’t mind, it means I get to use all more toys and also comes with territory of working on older vehicles, which is what I love.
Restoring the old back to their formal glory🏆.
The cabs red sections now have a thick layer of Ceramic coating on the red sections which have been all deoxidized and rehydrated.
The coating will protect the paint from any further oxidation, it will still get covered in salt and carbon from the road and rain but it won’t still directly to the paint.
And It can’t stick very well to the coating ( as it’s slippery as ) it’s also UV resistant, bird poo resistant and all the rest which is why it’s so great for cars down in Cornwall and helos etc.
This coating has a 8 year endurance, BUT with a good wash routine of maybe twice a year post spring and Autumn it will last a lot longer.
For those that don’t know about Ceramic coatings - they differ from wax because they bond with the paint / clear coat on a molecular level where Wax is a sacrificial coating.
That’s why Wax only lasts max 12 months depending on what you wash it with, and Ceramics vary depending on cost.
This stuff cost £170 / 30ml sooo it’s been invested in, which is only right. 👏.
And this is also why the surface needs polishing as Ceramics can’t bond with oxidation 💡
I’ve still got a fair way to go but it’s nice to see it getting there.
