Today’s video shows the Monument roundabout again but this time from Three Elms Road, turning left into Yazor Road. The cause of many fails due to poor observation.

🚗 DRIVING MYTHS: Time to put a few of these to bed...

Our recent “how to” videos have now clocked up over 20,000 views and one thing became clear in the comments…

There are still a LOT of driving myths doing the rounds.

So here goes:

❌ “You mustn’t cross your hands when steering”
Reality: The examiner isn’t marking your hand choreography. They’re looking for smoothness, control and safety. If crossing hands causes loss of control, that's the issue — not the hand position itself.

❌ “You must always use your handbrake every time you stop”
Reality: Not every stop needs the handbrake. The key is being secure and in control. Traffic flow, gradients and the length of the stop all matter.

❌ “You have to make mirror checks really obvious”
Reality: Don’t perform for the examiner. Check mirrors naturally and at the right times. Looking in the right place is more important than acting for the audience.

❌ “Touching the kerb is an automatic fail”
Reality: Not automatically. Gently brushing a kerb isn’t ideal, but mounting it, hitting it heavily, or causing risk is a different story.

❌ “The examiner wants to see a cautious driver”
Reality: They want to see a safe driver. There’s a difference. Driving too slowly, hesitating unnecessarily or avoiding decisions can cause just as many issues.

❌ “If you go over the speed limit you fail”
Reality: Briefly creeping over by 1–2mph while correcting speed isn’t the same as driving along ignoring limits. Context matters.

The problem with driving myths is they create nervous drivers who spend more time trying to remember internet rules than actually driving.

The Tesco, Debenhams, MandM roundabout. Spiral roundabouts can be challenging. This is the approach and direction that causes the most issues for learner drivers in lessons and on test. It’s all about positioning. This is A49 South towards Ross-on-Wye

From 12 May 2026, important changes are being introduced to how you can change or swap your driving test appointment. You’ll need to contact DVSA directly, and your driving instructor will no longer be able to change your test for you. Make sure you understand what’s changing—read the full guidance here. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/swapping-your-driving-test-with-another-learner-driver -to-swap-your-driving-test

Here are a small number of regular weekly lesson spaces that have become available:

• Tuesday 10am
• Wednesday 8am
• Wednesday 10am
• Thursday 12pm

These spaces are ideal for learners who are ready to commit to consistent weekly lessons and steady progress toward their test.

Driving works best when lessons are regular and structured, so we’re looking for pupils who can make these times part of their routine.

If that sounds like you (or someone you know), message us to enquire.

A Happy Easter to all our pupils. Past, present and future. Thank you everyone for your continued support.
