π Nissan GT-R R35 Audio System Diagnosis & Repair
This R35 GT-R came into us with a complete loss of audio. The radio, CD player, Bluetooth and climate controls all appeared to function correctly, however there was no sound output from any source.
The initial symptoms pointed us towards the Bose amplifier system. The vehicle had static, crackling and amplifier noise present through multiple speakers, which from experience is often associated with amplifier or DSP faults. Weβve seen similar symptoms on factory amplified systems from BMW and other manufacturers, making the Bose amplifier a logical starting point for diagnosis.
However, modern vehicle electronics arenβt always that straightforward.
Despite the symptoms, the AV system stored no fault codes and all major system functions appeared operational. This meant the fault had to be traced through systematic testing and elimination rather than simply relying on a scan toolβ¦.
The diagnostic process involved:
β Advanced AV system diagnostics
β Power supply and electrical checks
β Bose amplifier removal and internal inspection
β Substitution testing
β Speaker output and system behaviour analysis
β Radio tuner and source unit investigation
β AV control unit substitution testing
Once the 2 amplifiers was eliminated as a possible cause, further investigations were done and attention went towards the AV control unit itself.
A known good AV control unit was installed and the system immediately returned to full operation, confirming an internal fault within the original unit.
This repair is a great example of why proper diagnosis matters. The symptoms initially suggested an amplifier fault, but testing proved otherwise. Replacing parts based on assumptions can become expensive very quickly, whereas a methodical diagnostic approach identifies the actual cause.
No fault codes. Multiple suspects. One correct diagnosis. β
Another GT-R back on the road and sounding as it should. π
