When was the last time you saw one of these out on the road?

This Caribic Blue Corsa GSi is becoming a genuinely rare sight and has firmly secured its place as a modern classic. A true survivor from the golden age of 90s hot hatches, when lightweight, analogue cars delivered smiles by the mile without needing huge power figures or driving modes.

Sporting all the right period touches, including Speedline Alessio 2s and a tasteful drop, this GSi sits exactly as it should. 😎

This exceptionally tidy example came to us for a replacement sunroof cassette and a fresh headliner, bringing it back up to the standard it deserves.

With the work now complete, it’s back with its delighted owner and ready to enjoy the summer. Roof on tilt, windows down, and cruising in one of the finest reminders of an era when hot hatches were simple, fun, and full of character.

Cars like this are becoming increasingly hard to find, making every surviving example that little bit more special. 🚗☀️

One of our personal cars is currently in the workshop receiving further upgrades ahead of a trip to the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany — widely regarded as one of the most challenging and demanding racing circuits in the world. With over 20 km of tarmac, more than 150 corners and dramatic elevation changes, the Nürburgring is the ultimate test of both driver and machine.

While this latest round of modifications is focused on preparing the car for the trip, it is already far from standard. The engine has been fully forged and fitted with performance camshafts to improve strength and power delivery. It’s equipped with a K04 Stage 3 KRS turbocharger, larger fuel injectors and an Airtec Gobstopper intercooler, ensuring the engine receives the airflow, cooling and fuel supply required to support significantly increased performance.

Exhaust gases are handled by a full 3-inch turbo-back exhaust system, helping to improve flow, reduce restriction and maximise the efficiency of the turbocharger setup. The car has also benefited from a range of handling upgrades to improve stability, cornering capability and driver confidence when driving at the limit.

The latest addition is a Wavetrac limited-slip differential (L*D), which will further enhance traction by distributing power more effectively between the driven wheels. This helps reduce wheelspin, improves corner-exit acceleration and provides more predictable handling — particularly beneficial on a circuit as demanding as the Nürburgring.

There are still more performance upgrades to come before the car heads to Germany, and we’ll be sharing further updates as the build progresses. Stay tuned. 🏁🚗💨

Another day, another wet belt failure — this time on a PSA engine. These engines are well known for timing belt deterioration, with belts often breaking up and delaminating from as little as 30,000 miles. As the belt material degrades, particles contaminate the engine oil system, commonly triggering the engine management light due to low oil pressure.

The condition of the belt can also be inspected using the manufacturer’s belt checking tool through the oil filler cap, allowing early signs of swelling or degradation to be identified before major failure occurs.

Wet Belt Replacement Process

Replacing a wet belt is far more involved than a conventional timing belt service due to the belt running inside the engine oil system. The process typically includes:

* Draining the engine oil and removing ancillary components for access
* Locking the engine timing in the correct position using specialist timing tools
* Removing the timing covers and carefully extracting the degraded belt
* Thoroughly cleaning all mating surfaces and internal areas contaminated by belt debris
* Installing the new timing belt and tensioning system to manufacturer specifications
* Re-timing the engine and carrying out full rotational checks before reassembly
* Refilling with the correct specification oil and carrying out oil pressure verification

Due to the amount of contamination these belts create when deteriorating, simply replacing the belt alone is not enough.

Importance of Removing the Sump and Cleaning the Oil Strainer

One of the most critical parts of the repair is removing the sump and cleaning the oil pick-up strainer.

As the wet belt breaks down, fragments of belt material circulate through the lubrication system and collect in the sump. These particles are then drawn into the oil pick-up pipe where they partially or completely block the strainer.

A restricted oil strainer reduces oil flow and pressure throughout the engine, which can lead to:

* Low oil pressure warnings
* Variable valve timing faults
* Turbocharger lubrication issues
* Premature engine wear
* Complete engine failure if left unresolved

Removing the sump allows all belt debris to be physically cleaned out of the engine rather than leaving contamination behind. The oil pick-up strainer must be inspected and thoroughly cleaned to restore correct oil flow and protect the new belt and engine components from repeat failure.

Skipping this step can result in the new belt being fitted while the underlying oil starvation issue remains, potentially causing severe engine damage shortly afterwards.

A proper wet belt repair is not just a belt replacement — it is a full contamination clean-out procedure to ensure long-term engine reliability.

If you have a PSA vehicle and are concerned about wet belt issues, warning lights, or low oil pressure faults, get in contact with us to have your vehicle inspected before major damage occurs. Early diagnosis can save thousands in potential engine repairs.

Today we had this Ford Ranger in the workshop following a customer complaint of a brake warning light on the dashboard along with a hard brake pedal.

After speaking with the customer last week, we were already highly suspicious of the well-known “wet belt” issue causing oil pickup strainer blockage. We advised the customer to stop driving the vehicle immediately due to the risk of imminent timing belt failure — thankfully they took our advice and booked the vehicle in with us straight away.

Once stripped down today, it quickly became clear the timing belt was in extremely poor condition. The belt was heavily delaminating and cracked across the teeth — this was caught just in time before a potentially catastrophic engine failure.

This repair included a complete genuine Ford wet belt package consisting of:

✔️ Timing belt kit
✔️ Oil pump belt
✔️ Oil pickup strainer
✔️ Sump replacement
✔️ Vacuum pump
✔️ Water pump
✔️ Auxiliary belt
✔️ Water pump belt
✔️ Full service using the correct specification oil

We only use genuine Ford parts for these repairs — no aftermarket alternatives.

The vehicle has been left overnight to allow the sealant on the sump and timing cover to cure correctly. This is the proper procedure to ensure a leak-free repair. Tomorrow we’ll complete final assembly, road test the vehicle, and confirm correct brake pedal operation along with no oil leaks.

This is another reminder of how important regular servicing is, especially using the correct grade oil on these engines. Leaving wet belt replacement too late can lead to major engine damage and significantly higher repair costs.

📞 Contact us today for advice, diagnostics, servicing, or wet belt replacement bookings.

We didn’t manage to get any workshop photos of this job, but thankfully the customer sent us a picture of the van back where it belongs — out on the road and back to work for Precious Paws Dogwalking

This Vauxhall Vivaro came in with an intermittent issue where the clutch pedal was sticking to the floor. After inspection, we found the slave cylinder was leaking, causing a loss of hydraulic pressure and preventing the pedal from returning correctly.

To get this customer back up and running, we replaced the clutch, dual mass flywheel, and slave cylinder. After a full test drive and final checks, the van was given the all-clear and returned to another happy customer — ready to get back to its full-time duties as a dog walking van. 🐾🚐

We pride ourselves on providing a fast, reliable turnaround to keep our customers moving and minimise downtime, because we know how important these vehicles are for day-to-day work.

It’s not just cars we work on here at RJG — we also carry out repairs and maintenance on vans too. 🔧🚐

From timing belts, clutches, engines, wheel bearings and all repairs in between, we’ve got you covered.

This Vauxhall Movano came in with a noise when loading up the suspension while cornering. After diagnosing the issue, we pinpointed the fault to a front wheel bearing. Anyone who’s tackled one of these knows the amount of pressure needed to remove the bearing from the hub, but we got it sorted and safely back on the road for the customer.

During the repair, we also came across the ABS sensor retaining bolt breaking in the hub. We were able to carefully remove the broken bolt without causing any damage, saving the customer from needing additional parts or repairs.

While it was with us, we also fitted:
✔️ Rear caliper
✔️ Front brake pads
✔️ Rear brake pads

Quality workmanship, honest advice and reliable repairs for cars and vans.

One of week’s job was this tidy MINI Cooper S, which arrived with the charging warning light illuminated. The customer also reported that the engine temperature warning light had come on during the journey to us.

After carrying out our initial inspection, we found the auxiliary drive belt had come off. On these engines, this is particularly serious as the belt also drives the water pump — meaning the engine can quickly overheat if the issue isn’t addressed.

Further strip-down inspection revealed the alternator overrunning pulley had seized and required replacement. The overrunning pulley plays an important role in protecting the auxiliary belt system. It allows the alternator to “freewheel” during sudden changes in engine speed, reducing belt vibration, noise, and stress on the tensioner and auxiliary components. When these pulleys seize, they can cause excessive belt wear, belt slip, or complete belt failure — exactly what happened in this case.

While access was available, we also replaced the water pump friction drive pulley as a preventative measure, as the original component was showing signs of wear.

As many technicians will know, access on these cars is far from straightforward, with the front end requiring removal to carry out the repair correctly.

Once reassembled, the vehicle was road tested thoroughly and returned to a happy customer.

A great example of why early diagnosis is important — and a reminder that small components can cause major problems if left unchecked.

This particular MINI is a very well set-up example too, featuring a number of impressive performance upgrades.

If your vehicle has warning lights, overheating issues, charging faults, or unusual belt noise, don’t ignore the early signs. Get in touch to book in for diagnostics, repairs, servicing, or performance work — we’re always happy to help.

Yesterday’s work on the Renault Captur has now been completed successfully using genuine Renault parts. The original ABS sensor had snapped inside the hub during removal, requiring additional replacement components to complete the repair correctly.

New parts fitted:
✔️ Hub carrier
✔️ Wishbone
✔️ ABS sensor
✔️ Wheel bearing

All components were replaced and installed correctly, and the vehicle was fully reassembled.

During inspection, a number of additional items were identified that will require attention in the near future and should be monitored or addressed at the next available opportunity.

A full test drive was then carried out, confirming the issue has been resolved and the vehicle is driving well with no further faults present.

Keeping on top of your vehicle maintenance is essential — unusual noises and warning lights should never be ignored, as early diagnosis can often prevent more extensive and costly repairs later on.

A little update on this lovely Vauxhall Cavalier which we previously featured on the page. 🔧🚗

Since its last visit, the Cavalier has been back in the workshop for the essential maintenance to be completed to keep it in top condition and ready for many more miles on the road.

This time round we have completed:
✔️ Timing belt replacement
✔️ Water pump replacement
✔️ All tyre valves replaced due to age-related perishing

Preventative maintenance like this is incredibly important on classic vehicles, helping to maintain reliability, performance, and safety while protecting against more costly repairs in the future.

The perished tyre valves were also replaced to ensure proper sealing and tyre pressure integrity — a small but important job that often gets overlooked.

The car is now booked in for its MOT and will soon be heading back to its owner ready to be enjoyed once again.

Always a pleasure working on these classic motors and helping keep them on the road where they belong.
