🚗⚙️ Behind the Scenes: Saving a 2016 Audi Q7’s ZF 8HP65 Gearbox!
Is your ride feeling a little... hesitant lately?
We recently had this gorgeous 2016 Audi Q7 roll into the garage from Glasgow. The owner was experiencing some seriously frustrating symptoms:
Slipping clutches (revs climbing, but going nowhere fast)
Violent juddering between gear changes
The culprit? A tired ZF 8HP65 8-speed automatic gearbox. Instead of recommending a massively expensive brand-new unit, we did what we do best: got our hands dirty and rebuilt it to perfection. 🛠️

🔧 What we did to make it drive like new:
Complete removal & teardown of the ZF 8HP65 unit.
Upgraded the internals with 5 brand-new clutch packs, new clutch pistons, and a fresh clutch drum to handle the power.
Resealed the entire unit with all-new high-quality seals and gaskets.
The result? Absolute butter. The judder is gone, the shifts are crisp, and this Q7 is back on the road driving as smooth as the day it left the showroom floor. 🛣️✨

We’ve been a bit quiet on social media lately, and we owe you all an explanation! Ever since winning the Automechanik of the Year award, the phones have been ringing off the hook, and the workshop has been busier than ever. We honestly can't thank you enough for the incredible support! 🙌

​While we've been flat out keeping Ayrshire moving, our commitment to doing things right hasn’t changed a bit. Main dealers might rush you through or look for a quick win, but we always look at the bigger picture.

​Case in point: we had a car in recently for some suspension repair. While we were under the arches, we spotted something a bit shocking—a previous garage (one of the big national chains) had fitted the completely incorrect size of brake discs. 😮

​Instead of just telling the customer her brakes were worn and trying to charge her for a new set to make a quick buck, we did what any trustworthy garage should do:

​We explained exactly what we found.

​We took clear photos of the incorrect parts.

​We armed her with the evidence she needed to go back and challenge the previous work.

​The result? The big chain garage admitted their blunder and is correcting the mistake free of charge, saving our customer a pretty penny! 🛠️💰

​To say thank you, she dropped off this brilliant selection of biscuits! 🍪☕ The treats were a lovely gesture and the team cleared them in record time, but we were just doing our job. Honest advice, fair pricing, and looking after our community will always come first here.
