Great Glen has been home to some characters over the years...

Did you know has a home in our village? Or that Prince Rupert stayed here before the Battle of Naseby in 1645? We were also owned by Henry Grey, father of Lady Jane Grey, until 1554 when he was executed and there was even a mini witch trial In 1760! Two elderly ladies accused one another of witchcraft and were subjected to the ducking stool, one passed and the other failed but it seems to us they both lost out...😅

So, this is our village, we might be small, but we've got stories!

Gerard's Bend, Mallory Park. Named after our founder. 🏁

Mr Bob was so respected in Leicestershire motorsport that the most famous corner at still carries his name! He raced there regularly and also opened the newly reconstructed circuit on 25th April 1956. Gerard's is about a third of a mile long and turns through nearly 200°. Have you seen any racing there?

This month, the son of one of our valued customers is taking on an extraordinary challenge in memory of his dad.

Two years ago, William Sercombe and his family sadly lost his father, Charles, to stomach cancer. Charles, a well-respected local farmer, passed away just 14 weeks after his diagnosis, leaving a huge gap in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Having raised over £20,000 with previous running challenges, William is honouring his dad's memory by attempting to run the entire length of the UK – an incredible 870 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End – in just 14 days. Alongside completing his Mathematics degree at university, William has spent months training for this challenge, hoping to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.

Cancer affects so many families, and William's determination to make a difference is truly inspiring. We know Charles would be immensely proud of what his son is achieving.

It all started with bicycles 🚲

Bob Gerard's family business, Parrs, began in Leicester in the 1880s making bikes, before moving into motor vehicles at the turn of the century. But did you know Leicester has a rich history when it comes to bikes?

"Leicester at this time became one of the recognised centres for bicycle racing, attracting thousands of spectators. The public adulation racing cyclists received during this period was equal to that of today's pop stars. Leicester also had the distinction in 1970 of hosting the World Cycling Championships, which brought thousands of foreigners to the city and county."

Racing in all forms, it was obviously in the blood!
