👀 The best drivers don’t just react… they anticipate.

One of the biggest differences between an inexperienced driver and an experienced one isn’t necessarily how quickly they react, it’s how early they recognise that something might happen.

A child chasing a football ⚽️
A parked van hiding a pedestrian 🚶‍♂️
A car waiting at a junction 🚗
A cyclist looking over their shoulder 🚲

These aren’t hazards yet… but they are clues.
Experienced drivers are constantly asking themselves:

That simple question gives you time. Time to ease off the accelerator. Time to adjust your position. Time to avoid needing a harsh brake or sudden swerve.

Here at UP Driver Training we're huge advocates of RoadCraft, in fact, with Jessica Brannelly taking some advanced driver training this week she knows more than most that new drivers often react quickly to obvious hazards but can be slower to deal with more complex situations because they haven’t yet built up the experience to recognise the warning signs.

The good news? Anticipation isn’t something you’re born with so it can be learned, practised and improved every time you drive.

The next time you’re behind the wheel, don’t just look at what’s happening.

And we’d love to find the right person.

At Up Driver Training, we’re receiving regular enquiries from people looking for automatic driving lessons in St Helens; but right now, we don’t have enough automatic instructors to support them.

That’s why we’re looking for someone who shares our passion for developing safe, confident drivers.

📣 A new chapter for Up Driver Training.

Over the last few days you’ve met the three people who’ll be leading Up Driver Training into its next chapter.

Emma has shared that exciting changes are on the way, and Garry and Jess have introduced themselves. Today, we thought we’d take a moment to explain what it’s all about.

Up Driver Training has always been built on a simple belief: learning to drive should be about much more than passing a test. It should be about developing the skills, confidence and judgement to drive safely for life.

That belief isn’t changing.

In fact, it’s becoming even stronger.

By bringing together three directors with different experiences and strengths, we’re creating a business that’s built for the future; one that supports learner drivers, full licence holders, instructors and businesses through high-quality, coaching-led driver development.
