Stuck in traffic around Leven and notice the temperature gauge creeping up? Or a red temperature light, or steam from under the bonnet? Don’t ignore it. Your engine may be overheating because coolant isn’t circulating properly or heat isn’t being dispersed.
Possible causes include a sticking thermostat, a radiator fan that’s stopped working, a blocked radiator, low coolant from a slow leak, or a slipping water pump belt or failing water pump. Continuing to drive while the engine is hot can lead to head gasket failure and major engine damage.
If it’s safe, turn the heater to full to draw some heat away, pull over and switch off. Let the engine cool completely before checking anything, and never open a hot coolant expansion bottle.
Even if the overheating seems mild or comes and goes, it needs proper diagnosis, not just another top-up. We’ll explain what we find and agree clear, sensible pricing before any work begins.
