Potholes, rough roads and speed bumps... our suspension takes a beating every day.

The trouble is, many suspension faults develop gradually, meaning you might not notice a problem until it starts affecting your vehicle's handling, tyre wear or even leads to an MOT failure.

Common signs to look out for:
✔ Knocking or clunking noises
✔ Uneven tyre wear
✔ Excessive bouncing after bumps
✔ Pulling to one side
✔ Poor handling or stability

If your car doesn't feel quite right, it's worth getting it checked before a small issue becomes a bigger repair bill.

Most drivers check their coolant level occasionally… but few think about the condition of the coolant itself.

Over time, coolant breaks down and loses the additives that help protect your engine from corrosion, overheating and internal damage. Even if the level looks fine, old coolant may not be doing its job properly.

Signs it may be time for a coolant check:
✔ Engine running hotter than normal
✔ Coolant level dropping regularly
✔ Discoloured or contaminated coolant
✔ Sweet smell from the engine bay
✔ It's been several years since the system was serviced

With summer temperatures putting extra strain on your cooling system, now is a great time to make sure everything is working as it should.

Ever wondered what actually happens during an air conditioning re-gas?

It's much more than simply topping up the gas. A proper air con service checks the health of the system, recovers any remaining refrigerant, tests for leaks and then refills it to the manufacturer's exact specification.

Over time, air conditioning systems naturally lose refrigerant, reducing cooling performance and making the system work harder than it needs to.

If your air con isn't blowing as cold as it used to, now is the perfect time to get it checked and ready for the warmer months ahead.

What’s the highest mileage car you’ve ever owned? 👀

The world record is 3.5 million miles… let that sink in.

That’s decades of driving, countless journeys and a car that just refused to give up.

We’ve all either had one… or known someone who has -
that car that just keeps going no matter what you throw at it.

So go on… what’s your number? 👇

Your steering should feel smooth, precise and predictable, anything else is a warning sign 👇

If your steering feels heavy, stiff, loose or starts knocking, it’s usually a sign something isn’t right. That could be anything from worn suspension components and steering joints to low power steering fluid or alignment issues.

Common signs to watch for:
👉Steering feels heavier than usual
👉Knocking or clunking when turning
👉Car pulling to one side
👉Vibration through the steering wheel
👉Steering not returning to centre properly

These aren’t just comfort issues, they directly affect your control and safety on the road.

The good news? Most steering problems can be picked up early and sorted before they turn into something more serious (and expensive).

If something doesn’t feel right, trust it.

If your timing belt snaps, it’s not a small problem… it’s usually engine-ending.

The timing belt keeps everything in sync inside your engine - pistons, valves, camshaft - all working in perfect timing.
When it fails, that timing is lost instantly, and in most cases, components collide at high speed.

➡️ Bent valves
➡️ Damaged pistons
➡️ Potential full engine failure

It’s one of the most expensive avoidable repairs on a car.

Prevention is everything
Most manufacturers recommend replacing the timing belt every 5 years or around 60,000 miles (always worth checking your specific vehicle).

The problem?
A lot of cars show no warning signs before failure.

If you’re not sure when yours was last changed, it’s worth checking before it becomes a much bigger issue.

Engine oil is the one thing your car simply can’t run without and it’s doing more work than most people realise 👇

Inside your engine are thousands of moving components and hundreds of metal-on-metal contact points. Oil is what keeps everything lubricated, cool and protected from wear.

But here’s the key part…

👉 Oil level matters just as much as oil quality
Even being 1 litre low can significantly increase friction and heat inside the engine, leading to accelerated wear over time.

👉 Low oil doesn’t always trigger a warning straight away
By the time a light comes on, damage may already be happening.

👉 Short trips and modern driving conditions
These can cause oil to degrade faster than you think, especially if the engine isn’t getting fully up to temperature regularly.

A quick oil check takes minutes but can save you from a very expensive problem down the line.

Book in and we’ll check it for you 👍

Got run-flat tyres? Here’s what most drivers aren’t told 👇

Run-flats are designed to keep you moving after a puncture, using reinforced sidewalls to support the car even with little or no air pressure.

Sounds ideal… but there are a few important limitations.

➡️ They’re only a temporary solution
After a puncture, you’re typically limited to around 50 miles at up to 50mph. They’re designed to get you to a garage safel, not to carry on as normal.

➡️ Damage isn’t always visible
Even if the tyre looks fine externally, driving on it while deflated can weaken the internal structure.

➡️ Repairs are often not recommended
Many manufacturers advise replacing run-flats after they’ve been driven on flat, as internal damage can’t always be assessed.

➡️ You rely on your TPMS
Because they don’t visibly deflate like standard tyres, your tyre pressure monitoring system is essential to alert you to a problem.

If you’ve got run-flats and aren’t sure what your options are when it comes to replacement, we’re happy to advise.

Planning a summer road trip? Make sure your brakes are ready for it

Long journeys, heavier loads and stop-start traffic all put extra strain on your braking system. If your brakes are worn or not performing as they should, it can seriously impact your stopping distance and overall safety.

A quick brake inspection can give you peace of mind before you hit the road. We’ll check your pads, discs, and overall braking performance to make sure everything’s working exactly as it should.

Don’t leave it to chance before those summer miles.

Give us a call on 01566 784076 and we’ll get you booked in 👍
