His old exhaust had broken with age and he wanted a little more tone. 2.5 inch stainless, TIG welded, finished with a Profusion rear box. The note is subtle: a deeper, more refined tone with increased flow.

Part one of Joe's forged 1.8 VVT is up on the site.

We developed a low mount turbo manifold around it, drawn against 3D scans of an MX-5 and test fitted as a print before any steel is cut. The goal is 380 to 400 bhp from a Garrett G25-585 with a Turbosmart CompGate40.

The post covers the engine and the thinking behind every choice in the manifold: tubular rather than a log, the turbo stood off the head for the gate, the recirc and the spanners, 1.25 inch runners, long radius bends, why the G25-585 over the other turbos people fit, and why we use Cerakote and never fibre wrap.

Part two is fabrication and install. Part three is the dyno.

William’s own Mk1 with an NB 1.6 swapped in and turbocharged. GBC350 on a bespoke low mount manifold, GenV CompGate40, Link G4X and flex fuel. Heading for 300hp.
