Another High Court win for public rights of way 👏
The Green Lane Association has successfully challenged Oxfordshire County Council’s Traffic Regulation Order restricting access to Cornhill Lane, a byway at East Challow, near Wantage.
Following the legal challenge, the Council agreed to have the order quashed, with the outcome formalised in the High Court. The Council was also ordered to pay the Association’s legal costs.
The restrictions had sought to exclude cars and horse-drawn carriages wider than 1.5 metres. The Association challenged the order on several grounds, including a discrepancy between the restrictions sought and those approved by the Council.
Dave Gravelle, Chairman of the Green Lane Association, said: “Rights of way are for everyone to enjoy, including those who may be elderly or disabled and unable to walk or ride a bike or horse.”
The Association now hopes to work constructively with the Council to help maintain Cornhill Lane, including exploring opportunities for volunteers to cut back overhanging vegetation. 💚
