For the first time, RM Sotheby's is holding a sale at the Royal Automobile Club Concours (8 July, Woodcote Park, Epsom, Surrey). The carefully-selected collection of significant automobiles includes this 1990 Ferrari F40 'Jean Sage' by Michelotto, which was sold new to French motorsport legend Jean Sage, and this 1934 Works MG K3 Magnette two-seater 'Pointed Tail', one of three K3s prepared by Captain George Eyston for the 1934 racing season. A dazzling display of cars and motorcycles will grace the lawns of the Royal Automobile Club’s Woodcote Park clubhouse at Epsom on 8 July for the Club’s annual Concours. Concours categories range from picnic-perfect shooting brakes and pristine historic race cars to pre-War mascots and V12-powered machines. Anniversaries for Daimler, Lancia, Lagonda and Mercedes-Benz, the centenary of the very first British Grand Prix and the 130th anniversary of the birth of Sir Henry Segrave will all be celebrated, as will fabulously extravagant limousines and landaulettes dating from the Edwardian era. Registered participants in the Veteran Car Run are invited to purchase tickets for this invitation-only event, using the code they receive once their Run entry has been accepted.

What is literally ‘the fastest watch on earth’ - the timepiece worn by Wing Commander Andy Green OBE while setting the still unbeaten Land Speed Record in 1997 - is to be sold to raise funds for charity at an online auction which starts today. Andy Green wore the Casio AW-370/1318 for every one of Thrust SSC’s 66 runs, including the final record runs in Black Rock Desert in Nevada when the car became the only land vehicle in history to exceed the speed of sound.

An enthusiastic Veteran Car Run participant in recent years, Andy said “The watch was only worn during the Land Speed Record campaign, so the signs of light wear are all related to Thrust SSC. The dust on the strap is desert dust from the Black Rock Desert. The watch has remained in my possession and has not been worn since.”

The auction will raise funds for the Buying Time Foundation, a charity which helps young people living with a serious or terminal illness buy some quality time with those they love. The charity’s inaugural auction - which also features an exceptionally rare 2006 Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 116520 gifted by Land Speed Record-breaker Richard Noble OBE - runs from today, 15 June, to 14 July. We’re thrilled to unveil the theme for this year’s RM Sotheby’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run: the 140th anniversary of Carl Benz’s groundbreaking 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen, the world’s first production motor car.

To celebrate, the Club commissioned established automotive artist Neil Collins to create a special painting of Bertha Benz and her two sons on the world’s first long-distance motor journey – a bold 65-mile drive that helped prove the potential of her husband’s invention and spark the age of motoring.

We very much enjoyed Simon Hucknall’s excellent feature in Classic & Sports Car
on ‘Gladys’, the 1903 Gladiator 10hp which has been owned by the Timmis family for 76 years and taken part in the Run no fewer than 60 times.

This 1903 Gladiator 10hp Rear Entrance Tonneau has charmed London to Brighton run spectators and its owners for generations
