Explore.Cosmo Cosmo is an interactive learning system that combines movement, play, engagement and inclusive learning through structured, play-based activities.

Our first product, Cosmo, embodies the next generation of accessibility input devices: connected, modular and highly customisable. Cosmo is an award-winning and evidence-based versatile system for therapy and learning designed by teachers and therapists for fellow professionals. Cosmo is a set of tactile controllers that use dynamic sensors, light up, and adjust their colours. They connect wirelessly with the Cosmo Training app, which contains interactive games and musical exercises to support engagement, sensory integration, expression and socialisation. We designed Cosmo with the help of over 70 therapy and education professionals, Birmingham and Goldsmith's Universities, the Athens Centre for Cerebral Palsy and the National Rehabilitation Centre of Greece. We have created Cosmo because we realised that technology and interaction design could help students of all abilities learn, express themselves and interact with others. Cosmo, the first connected system, is designed to help children train their academic, communication and motor skills through play and storytelling. We realise that people with Additional Learning Needs have unique needs and abilities. That is why we worked hard to make Cosmo highly customisable and versatile by hosting numerous activities and using Machine Learning to continuously adapt to the user's comfort zone.

Why does so much school technology end up in a cupboard?

Nici Foote’s answer: it’s rarely the tech. It’s capacity. Who keeps it charged? Who books it for 3B on a Tuesday morning? Who makes sure it’s back, plugged in and ready for 4B the next day?

That’s why, when we built Cosmo, plug and play was the priority, along with teacher training that actually works for teachers.

Before your school spends its inclusion funding, ask the cupboard question: who will make sure this gets used every week?

“It was the first time that certain children could be in the room together.”

In this episode of Every Learner, Nici Foote asks a question every school should be asking: which students are consistently removed from class, why, and what are we giving them instead?

Her focus isn’t a SEND label. It’s activities that include everyone, not in different tiers, so children can take part together.

Every Learner is a series of conversations around learning, therapy and inclusion powered by Cosmo.

In this episode of Every Learner, Nici Foote, founder of Unbarrierme, sits with us to explore what real inclusion looks like in classrooms, what schools often misunderstand, and why belonging means more than simply being present. We discuss DfE inclusion funding and how schools can spend it wisely to make a meaningful difference for learners.

“The system doesn’t work for me because I’m not normal.”

That’s what Ana believed growing up. Then she realised it was never her. It was a system “that serves only certain people and only certain pupils.”

Everyone is unique. And as Nici Foote explains in episode 1 of Every Learner, nobody learns well in a room where they don’t feel they belong.

Inclusion money that never reaches a child isn’t inclusion.

Every mainstream school in England now has new inclusion funding. The risk, as we say in episode 1 of Every Learner, is that it becomes “another procurement exercise” instead of something that changes schools and pupils.

So here’s the question for every school this term: where is our inclusion money going?

Which Cosmo learning suite is right for your learners?

Here’s a quick guide to the differences between Cosmo Grow and Cosmo Ability, and how each supports different learning goals.

🌱 Cosmo Grow develops the foundations for learning through activities that build attention, communication, self regulation, movement and school readiness (curriculum links)

💜 Cosmo Ability offers accessible, highly adaptable activities that support learners with more complex needs to engage, communicate and succeed at their own level.

🎵 Cosmo Music opens up inclusive music making, creativity and self expression through engaging, interactive activities with the Cosmo Dots.

Together, the Cosmo learning suites provide flexible, engaging experiences that support learners at every stage of their journey.

Transitions set the tone for learning.

At Communication Works, Ewa introduced Guided Movement, one of the activities in the new Cosmo Grow learning suite, to a teacher from a school already using Cosmo to support their SEND learners.

Using the Cosmo Dots, children follow movement prompts by tapping and moving between the illuminated Dots. The activity encourages shared movement, attention and self regulation, helping the whole group transition into learning with greater focus and engagement.
