🚙 1991 TOYOTA LAND CRUISER – JAPANESE LEGEND GETS THE PP TUNING TREATMENT! 🇯🇵

Now this is something a bit special! 😍

A 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser, powered by a 3.5-litre 5-cylinder diesel, recently rolled into PP Tuning for some serious underbody protection.

Having only recently arrived in the UK, straight from Japan, the underside of this old beast was exceptionally clean for a 35-year-old vehicle! 👌

But there was one problem…

Absolutely no underbody protection! 😬

And as we all know, British roads, rain and winter road salt aren’t exactly kind to Japanese imports! 🇬🇧🌧️

🔧 SO WHAT DID WE DO?

First up, a thorough clean-down of the entire underside, followed by blasting away any dirt, loose or flaky paint and surface contamination to give us a properly prepared base.

The customer opted for Bilt Hamber Dynax UB, and what a cracking choice for preserving a vehicle like this!

🛡️ WHY DYNAX UB?

Unlike your typical black underseal, Dynax UB has a slightly brown, translucent appearance.

It uses a sulphonate-rich, microcrystalline wax formulation that creates a flexible, self-healing protective barrier.

✅ Helps prevent moisture, air and road salt reaching the metal

✅ Flexible, self-healing wax protection

✅ Suitable for protecting bare and painted metal surfaces

✅ Designed to provide long-lasting corrosion protection

✅ Up to 5 years of protection under suitable conditions

Two coats are required, and that’s exactly what this Land Cruiser received. No shortcuts, just proper preparation and application. 💪

The beauty of this treatment is that we’re protecting an incredibly clean original underside BEFORE the British weather gets a chance to ruin it!

Because let’s face it, finding a Land Cruiser of this age with an underside this clean is becoming pretty rare!

Prevention is always better than cutting out rust and welding it up later! 🔥

🚨 ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER DODGY REMAP TO SORT OUT! 🚨

Honestly, some of the rubbish we see in this industry is beyond belief! 🤦‍♂️💩

Today’s victim? A VW T6 110bhp 5-speed that we’d already professionally tuned earlier this year.

Here’s how the story goes… 👇

Back in April, the customer brought his T6 to us for a proper Pendle Performance remap, developed and tested on our MAHA rolling road.

Job done. Happy customer. Van driving beautifully. ✅

Fast forward a few months…

While away, the customer experienced an AdBlue issue and was advised by another company to have the AdBlue system deleted and a completely new remap installed.

OOOOOHHHH DEAR! 😳

Rather than sorting the issue properly, this outfit decided to throw another map on it.

And what did they give this 5-speed T6?

💥 389Nm OF TORQUE!!! 💥

Yes, you read that correctly. 389Nm!

Absolutely bloody ridiculous. 🤦‍♂️

The result?

At around 1,800rpm, the dual-mass flywheel was practically trying to launch itself out of the gearbox! 🚀

The judder and vibration were horrendous.

But hey, big torque numbers look great when you haven’t got a clue what you’re doing, don’t they? 🙄

THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PROFESSIONAL TUNING AND CAR PARK COWBOYS!

So, what did we do?

First, we removed the rubbish software and returned the ECU to the latest genuine VW software.

Then we started again, properly.

📊 On our MAHA rolling road:

Standard baseline:
🔹 111bhp
🔹 245Nm

Professionally Pendle tuned:
🔥 164bhp
🔥 313Nm

But here’s the important bit…

It’s not just about the peak figures!

We’ve achieved a beautifully smooth, progressive torque curve right across the rev range, delivering the power where it’s needed without unnecessarily hammering the drivetrain.

✅ No judder

✅ No horrible vibrations

✅ Smooth, progressive power delivery

✅ Sensible torque for the 5-speed drivetrain

✅ Properly tested on our MAHA rolling road

And most importantly, a van that drives exactly how it should! 👌

💬 389Nm might sound impressive down the pub, but it’s not so impressive when your dual-mass flywheel is trying to escape through the gearbox! 😂

There’s a reason we spend time developing, testing and refining our calibrations.

ANYONE CAN CHASE A BIG NUMBER. NOT EVERYONE CAN PRODUCE A PROPERLY ENGINEERED REMAP.

At PP Tuning, we believe in doing the job properly, not just chasing figures to impress customers.

Buy cheap, buy twice. Unfortunately, this customer found that out the hard way.

This VW T4 2.5 TDI has been in with us at PP Tuning for a full turbo-back exhaust upgrade, and we have gone all the way from the turbo to the rear bumper!

We have fitted a full 2.5-inch downpipe and matching 2.5-inch stainless steel single exhaust system, keeping the same diameter throughout. And, as always, it is all about the quality of the bends as well as the diameter!

Our stainless steel systems are mandrel bent, helping maintain a consistent internal diameter through the bends for smoother exhaust gas flow. No collection of bulky, thick-walled dairy bends cobbled together here! 😉 Just a properly made exhaust system designed with performance and quality in mind.

🔥 FROM HASTINGS TO PP TUNING – NOW THAT’S A ROAD TRIP! 🔥

Another customer making the journey all the way from Hastings on the South Coast to see us at PP Tuning in Ralph today! 🚐💨

And they certainly weren’t going home disappointed! 😎

This one arrived already remapped, supposedly pushing around 129 BHP… but we wanted to see what it was really capable of! 👀

First, we returned it to standard and ran it on the dyno, where it produced its original 84 BHP.

Then it was time for the Pendle Performance magic! 🪄🔥

📊 THE RESULTS:

🔹 Standard: 84 BHP

🔹 Previous Remap: Around 129 BHP

🔹 PP Tuning / Pendle Remap: 161 BHP! 🚀

💪 That’s a whopping 77 BHP gain over standard!

And we didn’t stop there…

We also fitted one of our stunning QUAD EXIT STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST SYSTEMS! 🔥🔥

Giving this van the looks to match its newfound performance! 😍

We had a Vw T4 2.5 TDI in for a serious upgrade – our full turbo-back stainless steel mandrel-bent system.

VW T4 Camper In For The PP Tuning Treatment 🚐💨

We’ve been trying to keep up with the socials, but the workshop has been absolutely flat out. Not complaining though… busy is good! 😅

This VW T4 coachbuilt camper came in for a PP Tuning stainless steel exhaust made using our mandrel bender machine, plus setup and tuning on its 2.4D turbo conversion.

The exhaust was custom-built in stainless steel using our mandrel bender machine, which keeps the tubing diameter consistent through each curve. Unlike standard crush-bent pipework, mandrel bending prevents the bends from narrowing or becoming restricted, helping the exhaust gases flow more freely.

Using the mandrel bender also means there are hardly any welds in the pipework. This gives the exhaust a cleaner finish, reduces potential weak points and helps create a stronger, more durable system.

That means smoother gas flow, fewer restrictions and a better-designed exhaust system, while still allowing us to route the pipework neatly around the chassis and underbody. The result is a strong, durable and free-flowing exhaust that’s built specifically for the vehicle rather than adapted from off-the-shelf sections.

The stainless-steel construction also offers excellent corrosion resistance, making it ideal for a camper that needs to remain reliable for years to come.

This one is all mechanical tuning, and let’s just say… someone had already had a little fiddle before it arrived 👀

The trouble is, without a rolling road dyno, you’re never going to get it properly dialled in.

When it arrived, it was making:

80bhp
180Nm torque

With a medium smoke level right through the rev range.

Front end into service mode, access sorted, and then we got stuck into setting it up properly 🔧

After multiple small adjustments, testing, checking and fine-tuning, we finished with:

94bhp
206Nm torque

That’s a nice gain of +14bhp and +26Nm, with a much cleaner setup and only a low, acceptable smoke level at higher RPM.

Not bad at all for an old-school T4 camper! 😎

Mechanical diesel tuning done properly. No guesswork. No pub figures. Just proper dyno-backed results.
