πŸš— THE CAR SAID 40. THE ROAD WAS 30.
Modern cars are getting smarter.

My car is fitted with Traffic Sign Recognition and, to be fair, it's usually very good.

But here's something I've noticed while teaching learners...

If a side road has a 20mph or 40mph sign that's angled towards your vehicle, the camera can sometimes pick it up and display the wrong speed limit for the road you're actually travelling on.

In this example, the car has picked up a 40mph sign from a side road and displayed it on the dashboard, even though the road ahead remains a 30mph limit.

⚠️ Technology is a useful aid.

⚠️ It is not a replacement for observation.

The responsibility for knowing the speed limit will always rest with the driver, not the vehicle.

If all the technology suddenly stopped working tomorrow, would you still know what the speed limit was?

πŸ‘‡ Have you ever noticed your car displaying the wrong speed limit?

🚨 DVSA CRACKDOWN STARTS TODAY
From today, learners can only move a booked driving test to:

πŸ“ The same test centre

or

πŸ“ One of the 3 nearest test centres
The DVSA says the change is designed to tackle unofficial booking services, cancellation apps and automated bots that have been snapping up test slots and reselling them.

The aim?

βœ… A fairer booking system
βœ… Less abuse of the system
βœ… Shorter waiting times

But the big question is...

πŸ€” Will it actually reduce driving test waiting times?

Or is the real issue the shortage of driving examiners?

πŸ‘‡ Let us know what you think in the comments.

🍺 "I Stopped Drinking Hours Ago... So I'm Fine to Drive, Right?"

Not necessarily.

One of the biggest misconceptions about alcohol is that a good night's sleep, a strong coffee, an energy drink, or a cold shower will make you safe to drive.

The reality is that alcohol leaves your system much more slowly than many people think.
⏰ As a rough guide, the average person processes around one unit of alcohol per hour, although this can vary depending on:

β€’ Age
β€’ Weight
β€’ Gender
β€’ Metabolism
β€’ Food consumed
β€’ Overall health
For example:

🍺 4 pints of average-strength beer = around 9 units

🍷 A bottle of wine = around 10 units
That means alcohol could still be affecting you 10 or more hours after your last drink.

If you finish drinking at midnight, there's a chance you could still be over the legal limit the following morning.

πŸš— The safest option?

If you've been drinking heavily the night before, leave the car at home and arrange alternative transport.

It's not worth risking:

❌ Your licence
❌ Your job
❌ A criminal conviction
❌ Someone else's life

Many people would never consider driving after a night out, yet some still underestimate the risk of driving the following morning.

πŸ’ Were you aware that alcohol can remain in your system for so long?

πŸ‘‡ Let us know your thoughts.

Alcohol affects everyone differently. These examples are for general guidance only and do not guarantee that you are below the legal limit to drive.

⛽️ ARE HIGH FUEL PRICES CHANGING THE WAY YOU DRIVE?

Fuel prices have risen sharply, and recent research suggests many drivers are feeling the impact.

πŸš— Almost half of motorists say they're driving less because of higher fuel costs. πŸ›£οΈ Many are cutting out non-essential journeys. πŸ’· Others are having to reduce spending elsewhere just to keep their vehicles on the road.

The good news?

A few simple driving habits can help improve fuel efficiency:

βœ… Look well ahead and anticipate hazards early
βœ… Accelerate smoothly rather than aggressively
βœ… Maintain a steady speed where safe to do so
βœ… Avoid unnecessary braking and acceleration
βœ… Keep your tyres correctly inflated
βœ… Remove unnecessary weight from the vehicle

These techniques don't just save fuel. They can also make you a safer, smoother driver.

πŸ‘‡ Have rising fuel prices changed the way you drive?

Have you started driving more economically, combining journeys, or cutting back on trips altogether?

πŸš” Speeding offences have reached their highest level since records began.

In 2024, more than 2.5 million speeding offences were recorded across England and Wales.
But what's really changed?

πŸš— Are drivers speeding more than ever?

πŸ“Έ Or are modern cameras simply becoming better at detecting offences?

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Have you noticed more speed cameras, more enforcement, or do you think driver behaviour has changed?

🚨 HAVE THE NEW DVSA RULES ACTUALLY CHANGED ANYTHING?

Driving instructors can no longer book driving tests for pupils.

Learners can only change a test twice.

Additional restrictions have been introduced to tackle bots, touts and unfair booking practices.

Yet many test centres are still showing waiting times of over 20 weeks.

So here's the question...

πŸ‘‡ Have the new rules improved the situation, or is the real issue a shortage of driving examiners?

I'd be interested to hear the views of learners, parents, instructors and examiners.

πŸŽ‰ HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO GHALINA! πŸŽ‰
A fantastic first-time pass at Bredbury Driving Test Centre with just 1 driving fault!
πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

Ghalina came to Ian after completing around 25 hours with a previous instructor and feeling like she wasn't making the progress she wanted. After a further 20 hours of hard work, determination and commitment, she achieved an outstanding result.

What makes this achievement even more special is the journey behind it. Having moved to the UK from Syria with her family, Ghalina has worked incredibly hard to learn English while also studying for her driving tests. She passed her Theory Test first time and has now followed it up with a first-time Practical Test pass too. πŸ‘

Success doesn't happen by accident. It comes from dedication, resilience and a willingness to keep learning, and Ghalina has shown all of those qualities throughout her training.

A massive well done also to her instructor, Ian, for helping guide and support her on the final part of her journey. πŸ‘

I can only imagine how proud her family must have been when she arrived home with that pass certificate! ❀️

Enjoy your freedom and stay safe on the roads, Ghalina. πŸš—πŸ’¨

πŸšΆπŸš΄πŸ“± SHOULD PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS BE HELD TO THE SAME STANDARDS OF CONCENTRATION AS DRIVERS?

Most people would agree that drivers shouldn't use their phone behind the wheel.

Road safety isn't just about drivers.

Everyone using the road has a responsibility to remain aware of their surroundings.

What do you think?

🚨 BIG CHANGES TO DRIVING TEST BOOKINGS FROM TODAY 🚨

The DVSA has officially changed the driving test booking system from today (12th May 2026).
Here’s what learners need to know πŸ‘‡

βœ… YOU must now book and manage your own driving test

βœ… YOU must make any changes or cancellations yourself

❌ Driving instructors can no longer swap or manage tests on your behalf through the DVSA system

❌ Tests can now only be changed TWICE before needing to cancel and rebook

Another important change is also coming in June:

πŸ“ Test changes will soon only be allowed within your local area and nearby test centres.

The DVSA says these changes are designed to crack down on bots, resellers and unofficial booking services that have made waiting times worse.

At i-DriveSafe, we’ll still guide and support our students every step of the way πŸ‘Œ

But it’s now more important than ever to: βœ”οΈ Keep your booking details safe

βœ”οΈ Plan lessons and tests properly
βœ”οΈ Book well in advance
βœ”οΈ Stay organised with cancellations and changes
As always… this isn’t just about passing a test. It’s about becoming a safe driver for life πŸš—πŸ’¨

Any questions, just drop me a message πŸ‘

πŸš—πŸ‘ Huge congratulations to Sam on passing his driving test today at Bredbury Driving Test Centre with just 2 driving faults πŸ‘πŸš—

Sam has absolutely shown what safe driving and having the right mindset is all about.

Even though he’s got the driest sense of humour (a bit like myself 🀣), he always took driving seriously and understood the responsibility that comes with being behind the wheel. That attitude will take him a long way on the roads.

What also impressed me was how unbelievably chilled out he was before his test πŸ‘€πŸ€£

No panic, no overthinking, just calm, focused and ready to drive. That says a lot about someone’s mindset and preparation.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed our lessons, Sam. You’ve been amazing from start to finish πŸ‘
One day I’ll show you how to really play basketball πŸ€
I won’t let my height stop me from doing a slam dunk πŸ‘€πŸ€£

Well done today, Sam.

Me and the team at i-DriveSafe are very proud of you.
