π THE CAR SAID 40. THE ROAD WAS 30.
Modern cars are getting smarter.
My car is fitted with Traffic Sign Recognition and, to be fair, it's usually very good.
But here's something I've noticed while teaching learners...
If a side road has a 20mph or 40mph sign that's angled towards your vehicle, the camera can sometimes pick it up and display the wrong speed limit for the road you're actually travelling on.
In this example, the car has picked up a 40mph sign from a side road and displayed it on the dashboard, even though the road ahead remains a 30mph limit.
β οΈ Technology is a useful aid.
β οΈ It is not a replacement for observation.
The responsibility for knowing the speed limit will always rest with the driver, not the vehicle.
If all the technology suddenly stopped working tomorrow, would you still know what the speed limit was?
π Have you ever noticed your car displaying the wrong speed limit?
