A HUGE moment for SMD and Scooby!

This week, David Richards, Chairperson and Founder of Prodrive, got behind the wheel of our customer, John Rigden’s Subaru Impreza.

For anyone who follows motorsport, David needs little introduction. So having him drive one of our builds was a pretty special moment for the whole SMD team!

His verdict? He was impressed with the car’s power and how well it was set up.

John has been a long-standing SMD customer, and Scooby has been part of our journey since we opened our doors. Built for Autocross and running 453bhp, it’s a car we’re proud to have played a part in developing.

To have David experience it for himself and hear his feedback was a incredible highlight for this car’s journey!

This really clean Subaru Impreza came in for some attention to its gear linkage.
The linkage bushes were badly worn, so we replaced them to get the gear selection working as it should again.

This Audi S5 3.0 V6 came in after the right-hand bank catalytic converter had split away from the fl**ge.
The customer supplied a set of Scorpion performance cats to replace the original units, so we got them fitted and the car back together.

This isn’t your average Leon Cupra…

With a whopping 500bhp under the bonnet, this one came in for 4-wheel tracking to make sure all that power is being put down properly.

Exhaust Fabrication | Part 1
A little fabrication project happening behind the scenes…
This section of the job is the turbo downpipe and external wastegate recirculation pipe.
The customer wanted the option to either recirculate the wastegate gases back into the downpipe or vent them to atmosphere.
So, we’ve fabricated the first section of the system to allow the wastegate gases to be recirculated back into the downpipe when required.
Custom fabrication, built around the car and the customer’s requirements.

Project Sunny is taking shape.
The chassis work has come a long way, so now we’re moving onto the body.

Part 4 of the build sees us starting to fabricate the body kit for the Datsun, shaping everything to work with the new chassis and running gear.

This beautiful 1966 Chevy Caprice came in for a front wheel alignment to get it driving exactly as it should.
With classic cars, getting the alignment right is just as important as it is on modern performance cars.

This Mini John Cooper Works came in for a couple of subtle but effective changes.
We removed the front fog lights to clean up the front end and replaced the standard steering wheel with an Alcantara wheel for a more premium, driver-focused feel.
Simple modifications that make a big difference to the overall look and feel of the car.

This Golf R32 came in for a timing chain replacement. A big job that meant removing the engine and separating the gearbox to gain access.

While everything was apart, it made sense to take care of a few other items at the same time.

Along with the new timing chains, we fitted:
✔️ New clutch kit
✔️ New radiator
✔️ A handful of preventative maintenance parts to help keep the car reliable for years to come.

It’s always worth tackling these jobs while access is there, saving time and money further down the line.
