One tiny pipe was all it took to put this Mini into reduced power.

It came in with the engine light on. The cause was the sensor pipe on the exhaust, choked solid with carbon. One quick test found it, with no guesswork and no unnecessary parts.

Proper diagnostics first. Parts second. That's how you stop throwing money at your car.

That ticking noise on your BMW diesel might not be "just a diesel noise" 💀

This E92 came in for a whole lot of work, here we fix leaking injectors.

When an injector seal fails, combustion gas blows past it. If it's left, injectors can seize in the head and turn a straightforward job into a very expensive one 💸

Signs to look out for 👇
🔊Ticking or chuffing noise, especially from cold
Exhaust smell under the bonnet or in the cabin
Black tar around the top of the injectors and fuel lines

The fix ✅
🔧 Injectors out
🧽 Carbon cleaned out of the wells and seats
🆕 New sealing washers
🆕 New valve cover fitted while it was all apart

Sealed up, quiet, and running like it should 💪

Caught early, it's a straightforward job. Leave it and it can get very expensive.

This 2011 BMW came in for a timing chain service. It also needed a new turbo and an oil cooler gasket, so the engine came out. Routine work.

It ran for 2 hours, passed a test drive and showed no codes ✅

Two days later the customer had drivetrain faults, then it stalled and wouldn't restart. We had it lifted all the way from Dublin… and it arrived running perfectly 🙃

Over 8 hours it only threw the fault twice. The codes 249600, 24A100 and 259700

The culprit was a bit of corrosion on an ECU pin feeding the crank sensor increasing the wires resitance.

Sorted with no charge to the customer 🤝

Another 5 Series in the workshop recently, this time an F11 LCI

The car came in for an inspection and diagnostics following an engine management light, and we quickly identified several issues requiring attention.

The main culprit was a badly clogged DPF that was also breaking apart internally. Unfortunately, this had led to turbocharger failure as well.

We sourced a replacement DPF and fitted a refurbished turbocharger to get things back where they should be.

While carrying out the work, we also replaced the following:

Rocker cover

Front torsion arms

Brakes

Rear shock absorbers

Filters

A full coolant flush was also carried out to round off the job.

Everything back together, the car is now running as it should, with boost restored and everything working perfectly. ✅

E92 M3 winter inspection 🔧

What we found:
• Front discs worn
• Drop link gone, causing a front knock
• Rear subframe rust, common on all E9x
• Rear brakes tired

Common faults and reliability fixes:

• Centre prop bearing replaced
• Valve cover gaskets weep, and the magnesium covers flake. Aluminium covers fix this
• Inline fuel filter (£200) to protect the injectors

Came in for a fuel filter… left with a list as long as your arm 😳

2012 BMW F10 in for a simple fuel filter change after a recent fuel system replacement. We do a full inspection before we start any job, and the deeper we went, the worse it got:

🔧 Airfilter not in properly, seals damaged
🔧 Purple coolant ??
🔧 Wiring rubbing on a coolant pipe, waiting to wear through
🔧 Fuel lines not clipped in, just rubbing away until they leak
🔧 Oil very overfilled + a big patch of oil under the turbo
🔧 Wrong bolts, broken clips, broken plugs
🔧 Wood screws and so much more covered of the full 2 part series🤦‍♂️

Not the end of the world… but stuff you don't want to see on your own car.

And then we checked the turbo 💀

What's the worst thing you've found under a bonnet? 👇

Another tidy F10 in recently for a timing chain replacement 🔧

Alongside the timing chain job, the customer opted to have the rocker cover replaced at the same time, saving on labour by getting both jobs done together.

While we were in there, we also identified a leaking oil cooler gasket, a faulty oil level sensor and a turbocharger that was well past its best.

The decision was made to fit a refurbished turbocharger, a new oil cooler gasket and a replacement oil level sensor.

Everything back together, road tested and fault-free. Ready to get back on the road and be enjoyed again!
