Why Checking Your Blind Spots Can Save Lives
This image is a powerful reminder that mirrors alone do not show everything around your vehicle.
When you look in your side mirror, what you see can fall into three zones:
🟢 SAFE – The road appears clear. It may seem safe to move, but good drivers still stay alert and continue scanning their surroundings.
🟡 THINK – A vehicle is approaching from behind. This is the moment to pause and assess the situation. Is the vehicle moving faster? Are they about to overtake?
🔴 DANGER – This is where motorcyclists and cyclists often sit in your blind spot. They may not appear clearly in your mirrors, and this is where many collisions occur.
Mirrors are helpful, but they cannot show everything. Smaller road users like motorcycles and bicycles can quickly move into areas you cannot see.
