🚨 Honda S2000 🚨

Michael’s Honda S2000 was back in the workshop last week for investigation of a rear nearside scraping noise and an ABS fault, where the ABS system was activating unexpectedly at speeds below 5 mph.

Following inspection, the rear nearside scraping noise was traced to the brake disc backing plate (dust shield), a component that commonly corrodes on these vehicles. The backing plate was removed, resolving the issue.

While carrying out further checks in the area, we discovered that the rear nearside ABS sensor had sustained significant damage at the sensor pick-up point. This was identified as the likely cause of the ABS fault, and replacement of the sensor was recommended.

In addition, we found the gearbox mount bushings to be completely torn, allowing excessive engine and gearbox movement under load. Replacement of the mount bushings was also advised.

🚨 Honda Integra DC5 Type R 🚨

We recently had Harry Clark’s DC5 Type R back into the workshop for a series of maintenance and preventative jobs identified during its previous visit, where we carried out engine mount replacements.

During inspection, we found a significant amount of oil residue around the upper timing cover and rear of the engine. The rocker cover gasket was showing signs of seepage, so as a preventative measure we replaced both the rocker cover gasket and the VTEC solenoid gasket to ensure long-term reliability and eliminate potential future leaks.

Further checks identified minor oil leak from the driveshaft seals, which were replaced using genuine Honda parts to maintain OEM quality and fitment.

The front lower arm bushes were also beginning to deteriorate and showed excessive signs of perishing when the vehicle was lifted and the bushes under tension. To improve both handling and durability, we installed a set of SuperPro Suspension caster-increase bushes. While the lower arms were removed, they were thoroughly cleaned and refurbished, leaving them looking better than new.

To finish the job, we replaced the wheel bolts with genuine Honda ones. The vehicle had previously been fitted with poor quality aftermarket bolts with Allen key caps and an ineffective locking design, with several showing thread wear. The genuine replacements provide the correct fitment, improved durability, and greater peace of mind.

Another DC5 brought back up to the standard it deserves, with a focus on reliability, drivability, and attention to detail. 👌

🚨 Honda Civic FK8 Type R 🚨

Richard’s FK8 was in with us recently for a series of preventative maintenance jobs to keep it performing at its best.

Work carried out included a full service with oil and filter replacement, upgrading from the factory 0W-20 to 5W-30 — a change that delivers noticeably smoother engine performance/tone. We also completed a gearbox oil service and fitted new spark plugs.

In addition, valve clearances were checked and found to be slightly on the loose side. These were adjusted back to factory specification, resulting in a much quieter and more refined engine note.

To finish, we replaced the rocker cover gasket and thoroughly cleaned and resealed all associated mating surfaces to ensure long-term reliability.

After inspection, while no single mount had completely failed, a couple were noticeably worn and showing signs of age, To ensure optimal performance and reliability, we installed a full set of upgraded engine mounts.

The result? A much more stable drivetrain setup and a significant improvement in engine control under load.

🚨 Honda Civic EJ8 Turbo – Engine Health Inspection Report 🚨

Harvey recently got in touch regarding concerns about valve stem seals on his D16 turbo EJ8. Following an initial discussion, we recommended carrying out a comprehensive engine health check before proceeding with any major repairs. This approach ensures an accurate assessment of the engine’s overall condition and helps avoid unnecessary work.

Our diagnostic process included:
• Dry compression test
• Leak-down test
• Coolant pressure test
• Full visual inspection

The results were very encouraging. The engine produced strong compression figures across all cylinders, with no more than 15% leakage—well within acceptable limits for a healthy motor.

However, the inspection did reveal multiple minor coolant leaks that will need addressing. Based on our findings, the engine itself is fundamentally sound. The smoking issue is more likely related to the turbo rather than internal engine wear.

Further investigation highlighted a potentially restrictive oil drain setup, with an undersized return pipe that could be causing oil backup. Additionally, the vehicle is fitted with a cheap eBay turbocharger, which may also be contributing to the issue.

All findings and recommendations have been passed to the customer, who will now proceed with the advised work needing to be done.

🚨 Honda Civic Ek4 Vti 🚨

Matthew recently contacted us regarding a reported crunching in 3rd gear. Given the extremely low mileage of 26,000, this was unexpected.

We conducted a test drive but were unable to replicate the issue. Rather than immediately disassembling the gearbox, we recommended a gearbox oil change as a first step, especially considering the service history indicates this hasn’t been performed in the past 7 years.

The gearbox oil was drained and replaced with genuine MTF-3, and new sealing washers were fitted. We have advised the customer to monitor the vehicle, and we will proceed with further action only if the issue persists.

🚨 Honda Civic EP3 Type R Trophy Track Car 🚨

Carl’s EP3 Trophy car was back with us over the weekend following its visit to the welders, where it received a replacement clutch, rear main seal, genuine release bearing, and fresh MTF-3 gearbox oil after we previously identified a low biting point.

The car had also been experiencing slow cranking and starting issues, which were resolved with a thorough clean-up of all earths—now starting first turn of the key every time.

We also supplied and fitted a rear bumper, complete with all new brackets, fixtures, and fittings, following a minor off-track incident last season.

Now fully prepped and given a clean bill of health, it’s ready to hit the track for the upcoming season.
