Golf mk6 GTI back in today for stage 1 tuning session.

This car came into us a few weeks ago for inlet cleaning package deal,but unfortunately due to a fault with the timing chain it wasn't safe to tune.
We recommend that the customer take the car back to the garage which had recently fitted the chains and rectify the issues.

After being with then for two weeks they managed to get everything perfect again. So we are now fully confident to strap it onto the dyno and tune it for additional power without any worries.

Its annoying as hell for customers when we refuse to tune their cars due to hardware issues, but its worth it in the long run.

Do it right do it once, tuning with crossed fingers ain't tuning...

RTP400+ Hybrid
Turbo back Trackslag exhaust, Direnza MTV intercooler, vis hpfp, custom 150bar rail pressure valve, inlet cleaning injectors tested, thermostat

On the dyno during tuning we were at 438hp 420lbft but the clutch would slip after 2 runs back to back. So we had to cap the torque back, during the road setup and mapping we found even sub 400lbft would slip. So it's a case of working backwards on the road in map setting 2 to find that happy medium for now.
The car was purchased with an upgraded clutch apparently, but feels softer than stock. Full power left on map set 3 ready for a new clutch. Whilst map sets 1 and 2 are capped to 350lbft 380hp roughly, a point where there's no slipping. Annoying as this setup wanted to perform really well, 440hp 440lbft was on the cards.

Additional measuring block add to the mapping, to make logging simpler for the customer in the future.

First job of the week a mk5 GTI 2.0TFSI in for inlet cleaning package deal with stage 2 tuning session.

Unfortunately it never made it into the dyno. When it came in Alex noticed a strange note with the engine sound, an additional tapping sound which the customer thought was normal for these engines. Instead of Alex starting on the inlet and injector cleaning first, he quickly pulled off the cam cover to see what was going on.

Unfortunately it turned out to be a worn cam lobe and worn down lifter rollers on the inlet side of cylinder 2.
It was worn that badly there was a 1.5mm gap between the rollers and cam whilst the valves was closed.

Pointless try to tune this today, we said to the customer his money would be best spent on fitting another cylinder head or sourcing a replacement inlet cam and lifters. Luckily hids dad is a mechanic and can sort it out for him.

Audi s3 8p 2.0TFSI 6mt came in basically running in 3 cylinders. Constantly missing on cylinder 3 due to the filter baskets falling apart inside the fuel injectors and blocking up the nozzle. We sent the injectors to for their unique Advanced cleaning and reconditioning procedures, the full restore the flow volume and spray patterns. During the health check we found that the valves on the performance exhaust system was completely seized up, and had never been working since the day it was fitted. Someone had connected the pressure controlled actuator to the stock vacuum valves controller. So for years this car had need tuned and running all the exhaust gasses through a really restrictive 2" pipe. Unfortunately the only way to resolve the issues was with a big hammer and a long bar to force the valve permanently open. It didn't sound too bad as it's running resonator and sports cat.

Then the customer said whilst it here can we carry out a fresh stage 2+ tuning session. Previously tuned with a hpfp, rs4 valve, turbo back sports cat exhaust, induction kit with stock intercooler. The peak performance was little shy due to having a weak actuator spring on the turbo, we don't think the previous tuning approach with the valve permanently closed on the exhaust helped.

381hp 414lbft with a huge amount of volume underneath both curves 😍.

Another brilliant setup..

Seat Leon Cupra 2.0TSI DSG in for custom dyno tuning session with an L380x Littco turbo and full stage hardware. Setup for track use at Donnington Park two days after the tuning session. So it not a case of extracting everything from a turbo, it's more about maximum efficiency, best possible cooling strategy, with the best possible control of the additional performance.

Setup with linear throttle torque demand, boost by gear, enhanced ASR traction control strategy. DSG setup with additional clamping with 18bar available, additional cooling strategies.

Its and absolute pleasure to drive, and the track day went like a dream with any issues.

Polo GTI opf in for custom dyno tuning session, previously tuned and was apparently closer to 260hp, but unfortunately it was spike of torque approach with not a lot up top. Setup with a full performance exhaust system, induction kit and intercooler.

Now actually running 260hp with a nice controlled boost profile with linear throttle torque demand approach for best control and drivabilty.

An absolute little pocket rocket now, so much fun to drive.
