BSD Performance

BSD Performance THE HOME OF PERFORMANCE TUNING, ECU REPROGRAMMING. BSD Performance has over 20 years experience working directly with Dynojet.

Offering a complete tuning service has always been BSD Performance’s goal and our fully equipped workshop, engine building room and Dyno all play a key part in producing reliable, rideable motorcycles, road or race, that are not only a vast improvement over stock but also live up to expectation. We use a Dynojet 250i Load Control rolling road Dynomometer and the ability it gives, to control engine

rpm at any throttle opening, is crucial for consistency and the precise build of a performance fuelling map. Ironically, the knowledge earned in the pre-fuel injection era, working on the Dyno with CV and flat slide carburettors has proved an invaluable foundation for everything we do with EFI. With regards engine tuning the first thing we do is find out what the customer is using the bike for, and what they actually want to achieve by uprating their engine’s output. Using our experience we then establish the expectations relative to application; road riders and club racers have very different needs and this part of the process is, we feel, one of the most important. Any motor that passes through our engine room is meticulously stripped, cleaned and, after the tuning work cleaned and patiently, methodically rebuilt. We take our time, and we take care.

It's an old marque but going strong. And we like today's offerings.

Strangely, Benelli doesn't figure on the radar of today's motorcycle masses. Eyes or the single eye of Fenlanders are typically focussed on the big manufacturers, while others are looking at the new wave of Chinese machines, and believing Benelli are still an exotic Italian brand. Nope! Wrong
Take, for example this Benelli TRK 702. Italian-styled but built in China and priced accordingly even with running gear supplied by the same brands who supply the big guns. Of course, being thoroughly modern, it too suffers from the harsh effects of emissions compliance - enough to make any ride unnerving and tiresome with snatchy throttle response and unsettling decel cut-off and so on.
Good news, though, this £6k-and-a-bit weapon can be remapped by BSD to make it a thoroughly sorted machine. The short rev range is never going to deliver big numbers, but the ride is now sweet as an M&S pudding.
Got a TRK 702? You know who to contact. Have a good weekend :)

Busy, busy, busy...
From Ducati to Yamaha to Benelli to Kove and more, BSD ECU remaps are the order of the day, tomorrow and beyond. At present, we are looking at a 2-week lead time for an ECU remap slot. Call us today to book your remap for the peak season.
Good job, then, that the below group of Naarfolk bois had sense to book a four-bike group remap session months ago. Good lads all and funny, too.
In other news: three Ducati Multistrada (1200) hubs have been spared from an early demise in the last week or so. Don't other dealers ever check these at service time?
Something that we can't ressurect is the rear cylinder manifold pipe on older KTM 990 Adventure models. Which is a problem for the owners - KTM no longer stock this item! Oh! We have a plan. More on this soon.

Definitely not buses...

But we did get two BMW M100R come along on the same day. Both stunning performers made better with BSD ECU remaps. Our favourite of the two went to the tastefully tricked out version. To be honest, though, either of these would look good in our own garages
Talking of remaps, Andy and his faithful dyno are now flat out providing customers of all motorcycle genres with throttle response and rideability that we should get as standard. Blame it on the emissions, sir.
BSD remap and service requirements are heavily booked, and we are working as hard as we can with the usual diligence to ensure minimum down time. Thank you again for your faith in our services.

A quick pit stop in today for this tidy Kawasaki ZX-636R Race build on it's return from the, only slightly warmer, Spanish race tracks! The bike is running a controlled ECU setup by Mectronik and being a freshly built engine for road racing spec needed a full engine run in and health check.

It's second fresh engine being ran in so far this year and just in time for the Northwest! Dan Ingham will be strapped in guiding this around the curbs before hitting the isle of man shortly after. Keep an eye for him in the Next Gen class as this race build is no joke. You'll defiantly be seeing some impressive speed trap times from a measly 600cc bike here.

A whole roster of machines leaving the cave today, and they're not the same beasts that limped in.

This weeks been a proper graft, but everything is leaving here today running as clean and tight as it should. We're extremely passionate (or borderline obsessive) and ensure every machine gets treated like our own, no shortcuts or guesswork, and no half fixes.

Ride safe, enjoy the sunshine, and try not to scare yourself on the way home!

Look and you will find...
Corrosion, dirt and cream-crackered bearings in single-sider Ducati hubs, if they haven't been serviced correctly (see the photos). Early 1200 Multistrada hubs are proving to be very common. If the bearings aren't too far gone they can be replaced, but if severely worn they will take out the hub - and this is a very expensive replacement job.
Putting a smile on our face so far this week was the "Shark." It was a 1584cc (96ci) Twin Cam Harley-Davidson, but now runs a 110ci (1800-ish cc) set up with Mikuni flatslides. Set up on the BSD dyno, she sure does get away pretty smartish. :)

Boat loads arriving daily. Not a bad thing really...
..especially if you're in the market for a stylish, large capacity sports tool, and for the right money. This is the verdict of us all here at BSD. No, seriously!
This is Chinese brand QJMotor's SRK 921 RR. Four cylinders of 119+bhp performance touched with decent components, such as Brembo and Marzocchi, and styled to impress by some of the team behind MV Agusta's latest tackle.
Priced at £8999.00, some might consider it a bargain. Others who wait for second-hand units will definitely score a good deal.
How much longer before the motorcycling world stops saying, Yeah, but it's Chinese?
Read what it's like to ride and see the full performance figures in a bike mag soon.

Something old and something new...
Different ends of the spectrum rocked up today here in Fenlandshire, to make use of the BSD dyno. The Suzuki is a tasty, race-prepped GSX-R750 SRAD, based on the first 39mm carb model. Take a good look at the trick bits that helped take this bike to a Classic TT win in 2023 -- and, hopefully, again this year.

Fire forward 30 years and QJMotor turns up from China with yet another big-capacity naked. Say hello to the SRK 921 -- a 9291cc, 4-cylinder tool that's packing more elelctrickery parts than Bangood and Temu! Ride-by-Wire , Quickshifter , Cruise Control, TCS, Launch Control, 6 axis IMU Cornering ABS, 1080p Dash Cam, plus BlueTooth and more makes it spec-wise on par with anything else out there. Performance isn't bad either (read the road test report in UK bike media soon).

It's holiday weekend. Yay!
We hope the weather holds for everyone to make good their passion for motorcycling.
All the best from us here at BSD

It's compact but does the job.
It's a road-going bike but its primary purpose is to compete in hill climb competitions. This is a Kawasaki W650-SS.
Power is provided by a Kawasaki W650 donk fed by 2 x Amal MkII 34mm carbs, with electrics by Benjy Straw. The frame (T45 tubing) and exhaust were crafted by Jeff Cain at Co-Built. Yamaha R6 forks and YZF125 wheels do their best to absorb any bumps, which is good when you're astride a hardtail frame. There are more details to ogle at and the BSA B50 petrol tank is one of those deets.
We like different.

Scuffed knuckles, sir?
Be assured you will draw claret unless wearing gloves while delving deep into today's motorcycles to access the rocker cover and extract it to get at the valves, let alone change shims. It takes time, too. That's the joys of servicing. Especially when it comes to Kawasaki H2 models and the like. Yes, we are busy. :)
