🌡️ HOT WEATHER DRIVING TIP 🌡️

With temperatures set to soar, did you know there's a simple way to cool your car down faster?

❄️ Use your AIR RECIRCULATION button when the air conditioning is on.

Many drivers leave their ventilation system pulling air from outside, but when it's 30°C+ outside, you're asking the air conditioning to cool hot air continuously.

Instead, press the recirculation button (the one with a car and a circular arrow inside). This keeps the cooler air already inside the vehicle circulating, helping the cabin cool down much faster and reducing the workload on your air conditioning system.

Other ways to keep your car cooler:
✅ Park in the shade where possible
✅ Use a windscreen sunshade
✅ Open the windows briefly before setting off to let trapped heat escape
✅ Check your coolant level regularly
✅ Ensure your tyres are correctly inflated

A cooler car means a more comfortable and safer drive, especially during long journeys.

Sometimes the missing piece isn’t more practice — it’s understanding what’s happening in the brain.

One challenge I often see with learner drivers is confusion between left and right.

And before anyone jumps to conclusions:

👉 It’s not a lack of intelligence.
👉 It’s not because they haven’t been paying attention.
👉 It’s often the result of stress, pressure, and cognitive overload.

When anxiety increases, the brain’s ability to process information efficiently can decrease. In those moments, learners aren't choosing to get it wrong — they're struggling to access information they already know.

So before trying to correct the mistake, it can help to calm the nervous system.

🔹 A simple reset technique

Ask the learner to tap:

• 5 times below the nose (above the upper lip)
• 5 times on the left hand
• 5 times on the right hand

While repeating:

“I will not muddle up my left and right.”

The aim is to reduce the stress response and help reconnect both sides of the brain before moving on.

🔹 Then create physical anchors in the vehicle (right-hand-drive vehicle)

Left = gear stick / centre console
Tap it 5 times while saying:
“This is my left.”

Right = driver's door
Tap it 5 times while saying:
“This is my right.”

No crossing hands.
No complicated memory tricks.
No added pressure.

Just clear, simple physical references that help the learner orient themselves.

For many learners, the issue isn't knowing left from right.

It's trying to recall it while dealing with traffic, steering, mirrors, road signs, and the pressure of getting it right.

Sometimes the breakthrough comes when we stop asking, “Why can't they remember?”

And start asking, “What is stopping them from accessing what they already know?”

🚨 BLUE LIGHT AWARENESS – WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? 🚨

This is one of the most misunderstood situations on the road.

You're first in the queue at a red traffic light and suddenly an ambulance, fire engine or police vehicle appears behind you with blue lights and sirens on.

Many drivers think they should move through the red light to make way.

❌ Wrong.

Crossing the stop line, driving through a red light, entering a pedestrian crossing or mounting the pavement could put yourself and others at risk – and you could still be committing an offence.

The emergency service driver is highly trained to assess the situation and will decide the safest way through. They may wait, use another lane, choose an alternative route or temporarily switch off their siren.

✅ Stay calm.
✅ Check your mirrors.
✅ Stay behind the stop line.
✅ Only move if you can do so safely and legally.

Sometimes the safest thing you can do is absolutely nothing.

Being a good driver isn't just about helping emergency services get through – it's about doing so safely and legally.

🛑 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR LEARNER DRIVERS: DVSA Crackdown on Test Booking Scams!

The DVSA is taking stronger action against those breaking the rules to make things fairer for all learner drivers. Since the new rules came into effect on 12 May 2026, only learner drivers themselves have been permitted to book, change, or cancel car driving tests.

Here is what is happening right now to protect you:

❌ 450 Tests Cancelled: The DVSA has already cancelled 450 tests identified as being booked or managed using duplicate payment cards outside of the rules. Monitoring will continue, and tests found in breach of terms will be cancelled.

🚫 4,034 Booking Suspensions: Over 4,000 online booking suspensions have been put in place. Anyone caught breaking the rules will lose online booking access for 12 months and will have to call customer services instead.

📱 17 Apps Removed: The DVSA has successfully removed 17 unofficial booking apps from Apple and Google platforms, with continued monitoring to take down new ones.

How to protect yourself:

1. Do not use unofficial apps or websites to find or book a test slot.

2. Do not book a test through anyone on social media.

3. Only ever use GOV.UK – it is completely free and secure.

Using unofficial shortcuts puts your personal data at risk, and you could lose hundreds of pounds alongside having your test cancelled.

🚨 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗗𝗩𝗦𝗔 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗥 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦 🚨

The DVSA has rolled out new rules to stop third parties from reselling driving tests and to make the booking system fairer for everyone.

Here is what you need to know if you are looking to book or change your driving test:

📍 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞: From today, if you need to move your test, you can only swap to one of the 3 nearest test centres to your current booking.

🔄 𝐌𝐚𝐱𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐦 𝟐 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬: You are only allowed to change your test date a maximum of twice per booking.

👤 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲: Since 12 May 2026, only YOU can book, change, swap, or cancel your test. Instructors and third parties are legally no longer allowed to do this for you!

The DVSA is cracking down hard on bots and test-reselling apps, which is great news for learners trying to secure a fair date! 🚗💨
