White Van Driver Tries to Run Us Off the Road… On the PAVEMENT 😳
In this driving lesson in Sevenoaks, we encountered an aggressive white van driver who tried to overtake by driving on the pavement — putting pedestrians, my pupil, and everyone around at risk.

At the traffic lights in Sevenoaks, we were waiting safely to move into the left filter lane — but not everyone was as patient. A silver VW Polo (reg: FW12 FRJ) decides to mount the pavement and use it as their own personal shortcut. 🚫
Just to be clear: Rule 145 of the Highway Code states that drivers must not drive on pavements except for lawful access or in an emergency. Pavements are for pedestrians. Full stop.
A few seconds of waiting is always better than risking someone’s life.

Caught on camera: A car pulls into our lane to parallel park without using any signal — causing us to slow down, stop, and even swerve to avoid a collision.
🚫 No indication.

This kind of manoeuvre breaches Rule 146 of the Highway Code, which states:
“Do not force your way into traffic. Do not overtake and cut in so as to cause another vehicle to slow down or swerve.”

Overtaken in a 30 Zone — Through a Hatched Area by a School!
I was driving at 30mph in a 30 zone — and still got overtaken. Not only was the driver speeding, but they overtook through a hatched area and right next to a school junction.
This kind of driving shows a real lack of awareness and judgement. Hatched markings bordered by broken white lines are there for a reason, and overtaking near schools — even when it’s quiet — is a risk not worth taking.
