🏁 Whilton Mill Club Round Report

Haven’t done a Whilton Mill club round all year, so with the national championships now finished, it was a good opportunity to get stuck back in!

After a good test on Friday, Saturday was all about getting more practice sessions in. With a lot more traffic out on track, it was a bit busier, but we were showing good pace heading into qualifying.

Unfortunately, qualifying didn’t go to plan. Heavy rain created huge amounts of spray, and getting caught up in the pack meant I just couldn’t put in the lap I knew I was capable of in the time available. 😩

After 2 days of rain it was all change for race day as the weather turned dry but chilly.

🔹 Heat 1 – 27th → 29th → 26th

Lost out at the start but kept battling to try and win those positions back.

🔹 Heat 2 – 27th → 29th → 22nd

Spun on the out lap while taking avoiding action! Luckily, a false start gave me just enough time to latch back onto the back of the grid, but the damage had already been done.

🔹 B Final – 21st → 19th → 29th → 25th

Got a good start and was looking racy in the pack until the kart in front braked suddenly and the kart behind helped spin me off. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Once I got going again, I was some way behind the pack 😩, but I kept pushing, managed to catch back up and pick off a few karts before the chequered flag. 💪🏻

Not the weekend we were hoping for, but the pace was there in the wet, not so sure about the dry though 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️.

🏁 British Kart Championships – Rounds 5 & 6, Silverstone

A tricky weekend for me. I couldn’t quite find the pace to compete in the dry, and luck wasn’t on my side in the wet.

🔴 Round 5

⏱️ Qualifying – DNS
A mix-up over how much time was left meant we missed the gate.

🏎️ Heat 1 – P27 ➡️ P27
Struggled to find the pace needed to make progress through the field.

🏎️ Heat 2 – P27 ➡️ P22 ➡️ P27
Battled well on the opening lap, but my front bumper ended up pushing against my steering, making the kart difficult to drive.

🌧️ Repechage – P12 ➡️ P8 ➡️ P12
A fully wet race. I was making good progress until contact with a spinning kart bent my steering column and track rod, costing me the pace I’d found.

🔴 Round 6

⏱️ Qualifying – P21 wrong gearing on (Dad’s bag)

🏎️ Heat 1 – P26 ➡️ P22 ➡️ P26
Made up a few places at the start, but couldn’t hold onto them with the pace I had. (Still had wrong gearing on)

🌦️ Heat 2 – P27 ➡️ P20 ➡️ P24
The rain started just as we headed out on slicks. Drove well in tricky conditions to bring it home unscathed.

💥 Repechage – DNF
Looking good and pushing hard before unfortunately crashing out on the 2nd second lap 💥🏎️😩

A frustrating few days, both on and off the track at times, but plenty learnt and plenty to reflect on, re-evaluate and dissect as my first season in Junior Rotax and my first full season in Rotax kart racing comes to a close.

Next week is a week off again for me as I’m away on a school rugby tour so will be missing UKC National Trophy & Shenington. I’ll be back racing at the Whilton club round the weekend after 🏎️💪🏻👊🏻

🏁 Ultimate Kart Championship – 6th & Final Round.
📍 Dunkeswell, Devon

With no Friday testing allowed due to local rules, we knew we were going into the weekend slightly on the back foot. I’d only driven Dunkeswell once before on a single test day, so track time was going to be important.

Thankfully, we managed to squeeze in three practice sessions on Saturday morning before heading into qualifying.

Qualifying – P32 overall
The lap was looking decent until a kart rejoined right in front of me and blocked the lap. Ended up P17 in group and P32 out of 38 overall, leaving us with plenty of work to do in the heats.

Heat 1 – P21 ➡️ P24
A couple of false starts before we finally got going. Then two karts spun directly in front of me and completely blocked the track, costing me around 20 seconds and pretty much ending any chance of moving forward.

Heat 2 – P22 ➡️ P26 ➡️ P22
Got loaded up at the start and pushed wide, dropping me right to the back. Kept my head down though and managed to fight my way back to P22 by the flag.

Superheat – P19 ➡️ P19
A big change in the weather on Sunday, so we took a gamble with the setup. It looked promising on the opening lap, but it soon became clear we’d gone the wrong way.

Repechage – P8 ➡️ P7
A really tight race with very little between us on lap times. Kept pushing right until the end, knowing anything could happen ahead and hoping for a chance to pounce.

Unfortunately, P7 wasn’t quite enough to get us into the A Final, bringing our final UKC weekend of the season to an end.

Not the way we wanted to finish the championship, but another weekend where we kept fighting despite everything that came our way. Plenty learned, plenty to take forward, and that wraps up our 2026 Ultimate Kart Championship campaign 🏁💪🏻

Very early start for us on Saturday morning as Dad & I head down to Dunkeswell in Devon for the 6th and final round of the Ultimate Kart Championship 🏎️💨

I’ve only been here once before, for a test day back in July, and I absolutely fell head over heels for the track! 🙌🏻

Really looking forward to getting back out there and seeing what we can do 👊🏻💪🏻
