Morning Southend — quick driving fact before your coffee.
On 13 June 1895, the famous Paris–Bordeaux–Paris motor race was underway, one of the world’s first long-distance car races.
The winner covered around 730 miles at an average speed of about 15 mph.
That sounds painfully slow today…
But at the time it was revolutionary.
The race proved that motor cars could travel long distances reliably and helped convince people that the future wasn’t horses — it was engines.
Imagine telling those drivers that one day we’d complain about a 40-minute delay on the A127!

Test Tip
Don’t rush to the speed limit.
Good drivers build speed progressively and stay in control.
Smooth is fast.
⸻
Try This Today
Focus on accelerating smoothly away from every junction.
No racing. No rushing.
Just smooth, controlled progress.
⸻
Southend Hook
If you’re driving through Southend today, especially around Tesco Roundabout, try focusing on smoothness rather than speed.
You’ll be surprised how much easier driving feels.

Question of the Day
Would you rather drive:
🚗 A modern car at 70 mph
or
🚗 One of those 1895 race cars at 15 mph?
