From cotton mill to skating rink to repair centre 🛼🚗

The 19th century cotton mill that was once a local skating rink is getting a new lease of life as Fix Auto Blackburn, a brand new state of the art repair centre for drivers across Blackburn and Darwen.

It’s being opened soon by Stephen and Sam Smith, a local father and son team who’ve been with us since 2005 and already look after drivers in Bradford, Keighley and Leeds. It’s also a big one for us: it’s our 150th repair centre! 🎉1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣

That means 150 local bodyshops across the country all working to the same high standards, so wherever you are, there’s a Fix Auto UK nearby if you ever need us.

Congratulations Stephen and Sam! 👏 we’ll be sharing before and after pics once the transformation is complete, so keep an eye out 📸

Only 4% of apprentices in UK vehicle repair are female. Nearly half the industry's workforce is over 45. It's a massive skills gap we can't ignore, and a lot of people who'd be great at this job who just haven't been asked.

EmpowHER is our national programme to open up automotive careers to more women and girls, and to support those already in the industry to progress.

Sites across the country will be hosting events and school and college visits, giving students, parents and teachers a first-hand look at modern collision repair: a skilled, technology-driven career with real prospects.

We're proud of where we're starting from:
✅ 47% of our team is female, more than double the industry average
✅ Female apprentices joining us rose from 17% in 2025 to 27% in 2026
✅ We're the first in the sector to launch a new degree apprenticeship, with a 50/50 gender split

Over the coming months, we'll be sharing stories from people across the whole Fix Auto UK Group about how they got into the industry and what their roles really involve.

We are proudly continuing our close relationship with the students at UH Racing. 2020 has proven to be a difficult year for all due to Covid-19, however the team has worked tirelessly to work on this years concept.
The students have to design every aspect of the vehicle; Chassis, Drivetrain, Aerodynamics, Suspension, Electronics etc, even down to the steering wheel.

This is a monumental achievement of engineering and UH Racing are the most successful team in the UK.

We are proud to announce that Bedwell Rangers FC, sponsored by us at Fix Auto Stevenage, have been named the top club by Herts FA.

The Grassroots Football Awards recognise and celebrate the work of individuals and groups to instil The FA’s PRIDE values – Progressive, Respectful, Inclusive, Determination and Excellent – and make a positive difference at grassroots football in their club, league or local community.
This is a fantastic achievement for a club with such a rich history in Stevenage to be recognised for their diversity, inclusivity, being able to offer affordable football to all... this cements them as truly being 'at the heart of the community'.

Bedwell Rangers will now go on to represent themselves and Hertfordshire for the National Award.
