🚗🔧 REVS AUTO REPAIRS – UNDER YOUR BONNET! 🔧🚗
Do you know what’s going on under your bonnet? 👀
Keeping an eye on your vehicle’s fluid levels is one of the easiest ways to help prevent costly repairs, keep you safe on the road and prolong the life of your vehicle.
Here are the important levels you should be checking regularly and WHY! 👇
🔹 1. CLUTCH FLUID
Clutch fluid is a hydraulic fluid that helps operate your clutch system.
✅ Ideally, keep it at the recommended level, following your vehicle manufacturer’s guidance.
⚠️ If it’s low or empty, it could indicate a leak or a problem with the clutch hydraulics.
🔍 Quick check: Look underneath your vehicle for signs of fluid leaks. If the level is low, get it checked by a garage.
🔹 2. BRAKE FLUID
Brake fluid is a hydraulic fluid that allows your braking system to work correctly.
✅ Keep it between the MIN and MAX markings.
⚠️ If it’s getting close to MIN, it could be due to worn brake pads or a leak in the braking system.
🔍 Quick check: Check the level and look underneath for leaks. Have your brakes inspected as soon as possible. If the brake warning light comes on or braking feels different, don’t continue driving.
🔹 3. ENGINE OIL
Engine oil lubricates your engine, helping reduce friction, heat and wear.
✅ Keep it between MIN and MAX on your dipstick.
⚠️ Low oil could mean an oil leak, oil consumption or an underlying engine problem. Running low can cause serious engine damage!
🔍 Quick check: Park on level ground, switch off the engine and allow the oil to settle before checking the dipstick. Look underneath for oil patches or leaks.
🔹 4. ENGINE COOLANT (ANTIFREEZE)
Coolant helps regulate your engine’s temperature, preventing overheating and protecting against freezing in cold weather.
✅ Check that the coolant is between MIN and MAX when the engine is completely cold.
⚠️ Low coolant could indicate a leak or an underlying engine problem.
🔍 Quick check: Look for signs of leaks underneath your vehicle. NEVER remove the coolant cap when the engine is hot!
🔹 5. WASHER FLUID
Washer fluid helps clean your windscreen, keeping your visibility clear. Screen wash also helps prevent freezing in colder conditions.
✅ Keep your washer bottle topped up.
⚠️ If it’s low, you may simply have used it, although a leak is also possible.
🔍 Quick check: Top it up with suitable screen wash and check underneath for leaks.
🔹 6. POWER STEERING FLUID
On vehicles fitted with hydraulic power steering, this fluid helps make steering easier.
✅ Keep it at the recommended level.
⚠️ Low or empty fluid could indicate a leak or a problem with the steering system.
🔍 Quick check: Look for fluid leaks underneath your vehicle. If the steering becomes heavy or noisy, get it checked promptly.
